Even though I’m a second time mom, I’m still obsessed with having an organized diaper bag. My husband would say I’m an over-packer, but I prefer to call myself prepared 😉 Having an organized diaper bag is so important if you’re on the go a lot with your baby. I like to have mine sitting right next to the car seat, packed, and ready to go at all times. If we are in a rush to get out the door I don’t want to have to make sure I have enough wipes, diapers, change of clothes etc. As a second time mom, I feel like I’ve learned a few tricks to make my diaper bag more functional and wanted to share with you!
Make sure it’s always packed and ready to go at all times and repack your diaper bag right when you get home. Get the dirty clothes in the wash and get a clean change of clothes back in your bag. Restock wipes and diapers as needed. I like to keep 3-4 diapers in my bag at a time.
I love a backpack diaper bag. I used a shoulder bag with Quinn and appreciate the backpack so much. I especially appreciate it when I’m wearing Kins on the front and have my bag on my back so I’m are hands free!
Carry a roll of dog poop bags to put dirty diaper and dirty clothes clothes in because blow outs always happen when you’re not at home. You can also get a cute poop bag to put them in.
Carry a Tide to Go pen or Shout Wipes. So many of Quinn’s adorable outfits were ruined by a blowout stain because I wasn’t able to get spray and wash on it quick enough.
Paci clip and/or paci holder attached to diaper bag for easy access. Kinsley does not take a paci, so I got rid of mine and don’t keep pacis in my bag anymore, but Quinn was OBSESSED. I needed to make sure I always had like 10 pacis on me just in case, so a paci clip helps it stay on them or the diaper bag and a cute little bag like this dedicated to pacis kept attached to the diaper bag makes them easy to find. I also like paci wipes…a very first time mom thing to pack, but I bought them for Kins’ diaper bag too 😉
Pack an extra shirt for yourself. Of course you always have a change or clothes (or two) for the baby, but don’t forget about yourself! I do this when traveling with a baby, esp. when on an airplane I like to pack myself a change of clothes as well because spit-up, drool, and blowouts always get all over mama!
*also do not forget to update the size of the change of clothes for baby as they grow 😉 The newborn onesie isn’t going to cut it!
Portable sound machine is a game changer. I used one with Quinn and I upgraded to this one with Kinsley. This also was a life saver when our power went out over the weekend and I had to use our portable machine to put her to bed. Make sure you charge it right when you get home!
First Aid Kit I made a little DIY kit a while ago (pre Kins) when Quinn kept needing bandaids, tweezer for a splinter, tissues, etc while we were out and about and I never had anything on me. I decided to be more prepared and put bandaids, Neosporin, tissues, tweezer, hand sanitizer, sunscreen, children’s Tylenol, etc. in a pouch and keep it in my purse. Now I keep it in my diaper bag. You can also buy a pre-made one like this.
Pack snacks! I have a cute pouch dedicated for snacks for me and Quinn and eventually Kinsley. Quinn and I get hangry on the go, so I usually have trail mix for me and bars and apple sauce, fruit leathers, etc. for Quinn.
Belt Bag for mom’s stuff. I keep my phone, keys, wallet, mask, lip gloss, etc. in a belt bag so I know exactly where all my things are. I either wear the belt bag or keep it right on top of the diaper bag. I don’t like mixing all my stuff in the diaper bag because if I go somewhere solo I don’t have to have to dig around the diaper bag to find it all and transfer it to a purse.
This is not a list of everything in my diaper bag. I also carry a formula holder and bottle just in case, hand sanitizer and wipes, changing pad, toys, muslin blanket, spit up cloth, etc.
