I’ve been loving reading everyone’s “2024 ins and outs” on social media the past few days and loving the energy. Like me, it seems like many people are ready to pump the breaks in a few aspects of their life and get back to the basics.
While reflecting on the past few years, I’ve noticed that there are certain areas In my life that have become a little too much. I started noticing this at the end of 2023 and decided to make some adjustments. My goal for 2024 is to really get back to the basics and not get caught up in the “extra”.
Here is a list of things I personally want to “reel in” in 2024 in an attempt to simplify my life. In 2024 I want less of this list and put my energy into being more content with the basics that matter the most.
Less Supplements
I wrote this post a few months ago about how I’ve been cutting back on my supplements. The supplement industry is absolutely insane right now and it’s really hard not to get caught up in the promise of health they all seem to offer. The truth is you don’t need 50 different supplements to be healthy. Save your money, eat real food, and read my post for the top 5 supplements that I do actually recommend (and have science to back them up).
Unfollow & Unsubscribe
I don’t know about you, but my inbox is filled with emails from every company shilling new year deals. I take this as an opportunity to actually click the email, scroll to the bottom, and click UNSUBSCRIBE! It feels so good! Rather than continuing to hit delete, or let the emails build up in your inbox (ick), I encourage you to unsubscribe and have a more peaceful inbox in 2024.
Next, get on social media and evaluate who you’re following. If someone’s account triggers you, makes you feel bad, annoyed, or anxious- UNFOLLOW! You don’t need to follow 2,000 accounts. Simplify who you follow and who you allow to follow you. We are going to have boundaries in 2024 😉
Less Nail Damage
I have been getting gel or dip on my nails consistently for YEARS! My nails are officially trashed. They are thin, breaking, and just look awful. I have been taking a break from gel and dip for over 2 months now. I used press on nails (and loved) for the holidays. They still use glue, but less damaging. I’m determined to get my natural nails healthier this year by taking more breaks from gel/dip and this will also save so much money.
I plan to allow myself up get my nails done for trips or special occasions. I also love the press on nails I linked above and will use those when I’m wanting color on my nails.
Less Mindless Spending
In 2024 I want to be more intentional with my spending. It’s become way too easy to mindlessly add items that are not needs to your Amazon cart. I’m forcing myself to pause and really think through my personal spending. It’s so easy to get caught up in the trends and gadgets, but the truth is I don’t usually need any of it. I want less stuff and clutter anyways, so this means less random spending. I want to be more intentional with my purchases and make sure they are items I will use over and over and won’t go out of style next month. It’s also important to check in with myself to make sure it’s not a retail therapy kinda purchase. Those can really feel good in the moment, but I usually quickly realize I just bought something because it felt good to get something new in the moment and actually don’t need it.
Less Nightly Scrolling
This was on Heather’s “outs” list and I 100% agree this needs TO GO! I find myself in bed early to read, but then spend 20 minutes scrolling mindlessly and then I’m too tired to actually read my book. What a waste of time, and not to mention it messes with my sleep. I plan to use DND in the evenings starting around 8 or 8:30pm, set my alarm for the next morning, and not look at my phone until then.
I know it’s trendy for influencers to have a word of the year right now, so I guess mine would be LESS. Scaling back on certain things in order to get MORE out of my life in the simple things. It’s time to slow down, get back to the basics, and find more happiness in life’s simple pleasures.
Happy 2024!
xx, A
