While I don’t have a crystal ball to see into the future, I like to try and predict health and wellness trends for the year. As a Registered Dietitian I’m on the front line seeing all the trends and fads come and go and have to be up to date on them to properly educate my clients when they have questions.
There are a lot of wild health trends out there, but I want to focus on 5 positive trends I see becoming more popular and researched this year.
HEALTHY AGING
I think people are starting to prioritize the long game when it comes to health and wellness. Think less crash dieting, juice cleanses, and over exercising, and paying more attention to longevity. I see people wanting to make sure they are fueling themselves adequately for physical activity and moving their bodies in a way that will help them remain strong and agile as they age. More stretching, yoga, mobility work, and strength training. Wearing a weighted vest because of its positive impact on bone health.
WOMEN’S HEALTH: PERIMENOPAUSE AND MENOPAUSE
Luckily for women’s sanity this is not such a taboo topic anymore. Women are tired of suffering in silence and being told to suck it up. While women can’t avoid this mid life transition it doesn’t mean we have to suffer. I predict there will be continue to be a lot of research into this complex topic as there is still so much to learn. Hopefully there will continue to be more resources, support, and treatment options offered to women.
GUT HEALTH AND FIBER
Move over protein, it’s fiber’s year to shine. We all know how important adequate and quality protein intake is and that’s not going to change, but I think there is going to be a lot more attention placed on dietary fiber. From my experience working with clients, meeting fiber intake goals is much more challenging than protein. (I’ve written a few blog posts on fiber, so you can search the blog if you want to learn more.) I think you’re going to be seeing a lot more products touting their fiber content (which isn’t always the ideal way to consume fiber) and social media influencers showing you their fiber journey ;).
ALCOHOL FREE LIFESTYLE
The “sober curious” movement continues to gain popularity. With people paying more attention to their health and wellbeing, many are looking at their relationship with alcohol and taking a step back. So many of my friends have cut back on their alcohol intake or have completely cut it out. I foresee the NA beverage market to continue to grow and expand.
SLEEP HYGIENE
Many people, including myself, are obsessed with their sleep. I believe the sleep hygiene market will continue to grow to support people meet their sleep goals. From devices that track and analyze your sleep, sleep masks, white noise, sheets, magnesium supplements, mouth tape, etc. continuing to hone in on specific sleep protocols for optimal sleep.
Do you agree with me or have different 2025 wellness trend predictions?
xx, A
