5 Trends I Hope Stay Behind in 2025
Reliance on Supplements & Quick Fixes
The supplement industry is completely out of control and while I have a handful of supplements I take on a daily basis and would recommend, supplements cannot take the place of real food. I wrote a post last year about this topic and have scaled back my supplements over the years to ones that are very hard/impossible to get enough of through diet alone. I really hope we can leave the green powder and gummies behind in 2025 and eat our fruits and veggies in 2026 š
1200 Calorie Diets
Most of my clients that I see for weight loss are actually NOT EATING ENOUGH! You heard me correctly. Low calorie diets can cause nutrient deficiencies, slower metabolism, low energy, harmful hormonal changes, impact bone health, irritability (hangry much?)ā¦the list goes on. Letās leave restrictive eating behind us and learn how to actually fuel our bodies for optimal health and wellness this year.
Perfectionism
Our meals do not have to be Instagram worthy to be nutritious. Sometimes the most simple and easy (not photogenic) foods are the best. Letās move away from feeling like our eating has to be perfect to be nutritious. Food and nutrition and is not so black and white, good vs. bad, etc. The all or nothing mentality can be a dangerous one leading to disordered eating. Weāve heard it before, but finding balanceā¦that 20% of fun in your diet⦠makes healthy eating realistic and sustainable.
Demonizing Seed Oils
No one died because they had a packaged food made with seed oils. āCurrent scientific literature supports incorporating seed oils into a well-rounded diet, particularly as an alternative to saturated fat. Although some debates persist around their potential inflammatory or oxidative effects, the majority of peer-reviewed studies do not support these concerns when seed oils are consumed in typical dietary amounts.ā (Eatrightpro.org)
Itās likely not the seed oils themselves that are concerning, but having a diet high in ultra processed packaged foods that contain seed oils (and a lot of other junk) instead of a primarily whole foods diet that is the issue. Overall, occasional seed oil intake in small amounts is not going to cause significant inflammation and health consequences as many on the internet woould have you believing.
Cutting Out Food Groups
A diet that encourages you to cut out any whole foods or food groups is a red flag. Fruit is not too high in sugar, carbohydrates do not cause weight gain, fat does not make you fat, animal protein does not cause heart diseaseā¦you get the picture. When you learn how to incorporate all foods, in the appropriate portions, a varied diet whole foods diet is ideal. Cutting out food groups can set you up for nutrient deficiencies, are unsustainable, and can set you up for rebound weight gain.
5 Trends I Hope Stick Around 2026
Strength Training + Lifting Heavy
This is not a trend and the benefits of strength training, especially for women, is backed by a lot of scientific research. I wrote a post all the way back in 2022 about the benefits of strength training for women and Iām happy to see this topic continue to gain traction.
Creatine
Iāve been talking creatine for a few years now and happy to see more and more women taking creatine and gaining the benefits of this extremely safe and effective supplement. I wrote a post about it back in 2023, but continue to see it gaining popularity. 5g daily is needed to saturate the muscles and there is research emerging to support that taking up to 10g can provide more of the cognitive benefits. Be sure to drink creatine asap once mixed in your waterā¦after a few hours it slowly breaks down intoĀ creatinine which is a waste product. Timing doesnāt matter, but taking it consistently does. Itās important to remember that taking creatine without strength training will not change body composition.
Fibermaxxing
This is a popular trend on social media and Iām so happy to see fiber having its moment. If you search the blog, Iāve written about the importance of getting adequate fiber in your diet for a very long time. Here is one post about how much fiber to aim for and strategies to incorporate more fiber into your diet. I also wrote up a 5 day high protein high fiber meal plan.
Weighted Vests
We love adding a weighted vest to a walk or hike for a little extra burn and bone health benefits. When done correctly, it can be a great way to take your workouts up a notch. I wrote a post all about weighted vest here.
Peri & Menopause Awareness
A once taboo topic is now getting a lot of mainstream attention- THANK GOD! Women used to suffer in silence without any support or education about how hormones change as we age. There is SO much that can be done to make these transitions easier, but first we need to educate ourselves so we know what symptoms to be aware of and what to ask for from our doctors. Check out my blog post here.
What trends would you like to see stay and/or go in 2026!
