There are a few weeks left in 2022 and rather than completely going to the dark side and vowing to clean it up in 2023, I encourage you to continue to strike a balance. That sort of black and white thinking, all or nothing, is a tough cycle to get out of. So I want to support you in trying not to get sucked the “all of nothing” thinking about health and wellness.
Sure, this time of year is going to be more indulgent and there is certainty nothing wrong with that. However, you want to start the new year feeling good, not completely run down, sluggish, and back at square one with all your health goals.
Here is a healthy “to-do” list to help you refocus your health before the end of the year and ready to kick 2023’s butt!
Schedule all your appointments for the new year.
Dentist appointment, skin check, OBGYN pap, labs, naturopath, etc. Have these on the calendar so you start the year off knowing you’re prioritizing your health. Also schedule in some fun appointments like hair, facial, and/or a massage. Having these on the books gives you something to look forward to the upcoming winter months which are always more challenging for me mentally.
Focus on the basics
Wellness does not need to be overly complicated. Now is the time to re-focus on the basics and be consistent with those behaviors…that is how you get long lasting results. The basics include: eating whole nutrient dense foods, managing stress, getting quality and enough sleep, regular movement, and staying hydrated. If you do most of these things most of the time you’re good 😉
Automate Healthy Deliveries
We all have SO much on our plate and trying to juggle so many things at once. Take something off your to-do list and subscribe to automative deliveries for products you use all the time. For example, I have most of my supplements on auto delivery, so I never run out and skip a dose. There are so many things we have to track of and remember, that I have grown to appreciate a subscription and not having to remember to re-order what I take daily. It’s also usually cheaper to have a subscription too!
Now is a great time to reevaluate your nutrition status and if you’re needing to add in a supplement to boost your health in the new year. Here is a post I recently wrote about supplements.
My auto deliveries include: AG1, Nutrafol, Elderberry Vitamin C packets, Magnesium, CBD (code: CHAMPAGNE15). I also use thrive market to deliver healthy snacks. While I don’t have any auto deliveries schedule (you can though!), it keeps track of my shopping list, easy to order, and is delivered very fast! So if you’re someone who hates grocery shopping or doesn’t have easy access to a store with healthy food/snacks/supplements etc. Thrive Market is a great option to make sure you’re kitchen is always stocked with the good stuff.
Review and Revise Your Routines
Heather and I are both very routine based people. We thrive off routine and it’s actually very healthy to have a solid AM and PM routine to set your body and mind up for a productive day and calm your body for sleep. Here is my morning routine and Heather’s night time routine (mine is very similar).
Now is a good time to review what your mornings and evenings look like. From the moment you wake up to the moment you go to bed you’re running on routine and habits. Think about how you spend your mornings, days, and evenings. What habits are helpful and which are harmful? Try replacing some of your bad habits (ex. scrolling your phone for an hour before bed) for healthier habits (turn your phone into airplane mode 2 hours before bed).
Clean Out the Clutter
This is more for my mental health. I love to clean out our closets, playroom, toy bins, etc. during winter break. We are going to accumulate so much new stuff on Christmas that I like to get rid of stuff we don’t use anymore to make room for the new. Even as I bring out all my holiday decor during the holidays I take a lot of stuff that I don’t use/like anymore and donate it.
It really helps me feel like I’m starting the new year fresh and not drowning in stuff everywhere.
xx, A
