The other day I had to put concealer on a small blemish and it got me thinking…I haven’t had to do this in a long time! If you’ve been following along with us for a while you know I was struggling with acne and desperately trying to find solutions. I went to Sephora and stocked up on all the goods and was even seriously considered trying the Rodan + Fields unblemish line. That seemed kinda harsh (not trying to offend any R+F fans) so I wanted to try and find another solution.
Over the past 2-3 months I’ve made a few changes in my skin care routine and have been very committed to making my skin health a priority. I’ve noticed a significant improvement in my skin, so I figured I’d share what I’ve been doing that seems to really be helping me. (I hope I don’t totally jinx it now that I’ve said this!)
- Probiotics (Tula and garden of life)
I have taken probiotics for a while, but I did a 30 day trial of the Tula probiotics that are clinically proven to help with skin health. I now take my Garden of Life probiotics daily which have a similar probiotic strains. - Tula Purifying Cleanser
I’ve heard great things about this cleanser and I was due for a new face wash, so I thought I would give this a try. I absolutely love it. If I’m wearing makeup I’ll use this first then the Tula cleaners. It creates a great lather and leaves my skin super clean. - Drunk Elephant
I purchased the littles at Sephora to test out the line and I’m seriously obsessed. As I’m starting to run out of the smaller sizes I’m biting the bullet ($$) and getting full the sizes. This is not included in the littles and I bought it because I think think it’s a game changer. I’m also loving the tinted SPF moisturizer. - Decrease Dairy Intake
There isn’t any hard science to backup claims that dairy causes adult acne, but there are some theories out there. My diet was pretty heavy in whole milk, cheese, and yogurt so I figured it was worth trialing a low dairy diet. Being a 100% dairy free isn’t realistic for me, because we like to go out to pizza every once in a while, but when I can I try and swap it for something else I will. - Monthly facials
I have been diligent about booking a facial every 4-5 weeks. Once I had Quinn it was very challenging to get in facials consistently, but with my skin acting up I figured it was time to get back on a regular facial schedule. They are also SO relaxing…win win! - Face Masks
I alternate between this Drunk Elephant face mask and this Beauty Counter charcoal mask. Depending on how my skin is feeling I try to do each mask once a week. - Pixi Glow Toner
I picked up this Pixi toner at Target a few months ago and have started using it almost nightly after I cleanse. Glycolic acid is the main ingredient, so I feel like since starting this toner (along with this vitamin C serum) my skin is way brighter! Side note: I’m also obsessed with this Pixi blush.
Other things I’m more mindful of:
- Washing my pillow case weekly (I love this pillow case- worth the $$)
- Washing my face with just warm water shortly after a sweaty workout (if I can’t shower asap)
- Avoiding touching my face (so hard!!)
- Hydration (64 oz/day is my goal)
- Colorful produce (gimme all the antioxidants)
- Daily Vital Proteins in my coffee (read all about the benefits of collagen here)
What clear skin tips do you have for me?? I’d love to hear them!
