It’s not just you. I, too, have a husband who dresses professionally and actually quite stylish for work every day but when it comes to his weekend wardrobe, I find myself cringing every time he walks out the door.. especially if we have to be in public together 😉 No, babe.. orange basketball shorts with an orange graphic tee shirt (with Tupac’s face on it) is NOT brunch appropriate.
I know I am not alone in this. I have friends whose husbands think that Nike joggers are OK for date night. Wrong. Dads who think that they have “going out Lululemon sweats” versus sweats that are only worn at home. Wrong again. My husband would be happy in a Champion sweatshirt and his shorts from 1999 and while I encourage him to express himself and find his own style, the above mentioned outfit is NEVER cute. Ok?
Sure, the majority of our audience is female but if you, too, have a significant other who has given up and needs some help, just show him this post or shop for him yourself 😉 Here are 20 basic pieces that every man should have in his closet and will never go out of style (you can click on any item below and it will you take you to the product page):
Suggestions for places to shop for your BASICS:
Nordstrom: Just always. Sure, can be expensive. Pick a few basic items that you know your man will wear time and time again and splurge. I buy my husband’s sport coats, jeans and wool coats from Nordy’s.
Nordstrom Rack: Where I get my husband’s henley’s, tees and sweaters. Still Nordstrom quality at a fraction of the cost.
Marine Layer: We have one here in Seattle and it’s my husband’s favorite store. Again, expensive but QUALITY. This is where I buy some of his specialty plaids, tees and shorts.
H&M: For very simple weekend basics that you don’t care if they get baby spit up or spilled beer on them. Aka joggers, tees, sweaters, sweatshirts.. but still stylish.
Now, the fun part.. purge all the gross sh*t in their closet.. but do it slowly and mindfully so they don’t realize it’s all missing all at once 😉 No, honey… I haven’t seen your graphic tee from 1986.. you must have misplaced it.
xoxo, H
