Recently I’ve gotten back into the habit of borrowing books from the library to save a little $. I love browsing the books section at Target and picking something up, but when I buy a book I feel I HAVE to finish it or it’s a waste of money- even if I’m not really into the book. I like borrowing books from friends too, but you can check out books from the library electronically and download to your Kindle app using Overdrive. All you need is a library card from your local library and you can create an account on Overdrive and check out books electronically.
I thought I would share a review of the last 5 books I’ve read to help you build your summer reading list. Drop any of your recent reads in the comments section so I can add it to my list!
What She Knew
I just finished this book last week and it was a good mystery “who done it” type of book. This book could be a trigger for some because it is about a young boy being abducted. I found myself wanting to keep reading it, so I could find out what happened. A few good twists and turns to keep you interested and guessing. This isn’t necessarily a “light beach read” because of the subject matter, but it kept me engaged.
The Lies that Bind
I loved this book. We all know Emily Giffin’s books are usually easy, fast, and fun reads and this one did not disappoint. The book takes place in NYC during 9/11 but it isn’t really about 9/11. I liked the main characters in the book and there were good twists to keep you guessing throughout the story. I read this in about a week- it’s a fast read and the perfect summer book.
Follow Me
This wasn’t my favorite book, but it was a quick and mindless read. The main character is an “influencer” and really unlikable, but it’s a mystery about who’s stalking her in her new city. It was a little dark and creepy at times, but kept me going trying to discover who her stalker is.
In Five Years
This book has been so popular this year. You could honestly read this in one day if you had a few hours to burn. It’s an easy read about relationships (romantic and friendships) that will leave you teary eyed. I did not love the ending, but I was pleased with the story. Definitely a good summer read!
Next Year in Havana
I think this is my favorite book on this list. It took me a second to really get into the book and understand the different characters and two different time lines taking place, but once I did it flowed beautifully. There are two somewhat forbidden romances taking place in different generations that come together into one story by the end. This book made me want to travel and learn more about the history of Cuba.
Happy reading!
