I saw you make celery juice on stories and curious what the benefits are and how much/how often you drink it? How long does it last in the fridge?
Alix: Celery juice is having a moment right now and I totally rolled my eyes when it started. But then I did a little research and tried it out for myself and I’m into it! Celery juice is super healing and some health benefits include: reduces inflammation, aids in digestion, reduces bloat, helps clear acne, helps with fat metabolism, and can help restore central nervous system. I’m on board to help me with digestion and my skin 😉
Ideally, you drink about 16 ounces of pure celery juice (I add a splash of lemon and a pinch of sea salt to make it taste better) every morning on an empty stomach and wait 15 minutes before having anything else. This is not breakfast, so please eat a balanced breakfast after.
Pressed Juicery sells 5 for $20 and it will stay good for those 5 days. If you make yourself a big batch I would say it stays good for about 2-4 days. I haven’t researched this, but for me personally it still tastes good up to day 4.
You can also add celery stalks to a high powered blender like a Vitamix add a little water and blend. Then strain the pulp with a nut milk bag like this (the one you use to make your almond milk 😉 and drink. This can be easier than getting the juicer out and cleaning that beast on the reg.
I have an 11 Month old that has been on the Baby’s Only lactose free formula since he was six months. I am wondering how you transitioned away from formula and when. Also if you know if almond milk would be good for him since that’s what I drink, or any other recommendations.
Alix here…I started transitioning Quinn off formula close to 12 months. She liked whole milk from the start, so it was easy for us to switch her over. She had been tolerating other sources of dairy like cheese and yogurt just fine, so we did not think milk would be an issue for her tummy. You can also start by mixing in some milk into the formula bottle to ease them into it. Almond milk would not be recommended because it does not have the calories, protein or fat like whole milk does. If your baby has a lactose allergy you could try something like Fairlife or other lactose free whole milk on the market. Talk with your pediatrician of course and see what they recommend too 🙂
When did you introduce solids to your kids? What were the first foods you introduced? Alix: you talked about making your own baby food, will you talk more about that?
Heather: I introduced solids at 4 months with Jackson and 6 months with Cam and definitely would have gone the baby lead weaning route from the start if I could go back and do it again (meaning I gave them REAL, solid food from day 1 of starting solids). But, I didn’t and just did pre-bought baby food and cereals. I started with peas, apples and carrots. Eventually, I was brave and gave them real carrots, broccoli, etc but for a while it was baby food bought from the grocery store. Alix definitely has more experience in this arena and can give you her helpful hints..
Alix: I tried around 5 months and she was not interested…she spit it out and turned her head. Too soon. I tried again at 6 months with one “meal” a day (dinner) of solids then progressed to 2 “meals” then 3 “meals” a day by 12 months. She was never really super interested in food, but I did my part by offering it at regular times and giving her variety and introducing new foods often. This is a great resource for introducing solids. I used this baby food maker and was all about it (hello type A anxious new mom!!) This came with a cook book that I used and loved. I would freeze her food in trays like this…then easy to reheat. I also made her fruit/veggie purees and put them into squeeze pouches like this. She loved eating out of squeeze packs and less mess for me, so I went this route a lot. I also gave her finger foods so she could use her fine motor skills and practice feeding herself. I also bought a lot of pre-made squeeze packs from the store and used those (and still do sometimes!)
If I could do it over I would still make her food, but would probably try to go more the baby lead weaning route like Heather mentioned in hopes that it might make her a less picky eater. Here and here are both fabulous resources I wish I had used more then starting to feed Quinn solids.
I’m looking for a cute holiday top to wear with these spanx leggings and OTK boots…any ideas?
Aren’t those the BEST leggings? They’re our fave. As for a top, you want something long enough to cover your butt and thighs.. at least that’s how I’d wear them. I’m thinking something along the lines of a cute red, green or burgundy blouse or an oversized sweater… or SEQUINS duh. If you’re braver than me, you COULD do a bodysuit underneath.. but to be honest, I think you gotta have some daddy long legs and a pretty petite frame to pull it off.. but do you, honey. I’ll link some of each:
I’m stumped on what to get my Dad for Christmas (guys are the hardest!).. Any Dad gift ideas?
Guy gifts are seriously hard. For my dad (Heather), we always give him a new golf polo, half zip sweater or Tommy Bahama shirt since he’s in California.. same with Alix’s dad.. pretty sure they are same same. But another good idea would be luxury slippers, a designer wallet, tie or cufflinks. I like any of these gifts for your significant other as well.
I’ve been using the Drunk Elephant tinted moisturizer you guys recommended, but feeling like I need a little more coverage for the winter. Any recommendation for a good BB or CC cream with SPF for winter?
Yes! I am loving the IT Cosmetics tinted moisturizer and I’ve heard fab things about Supergoops version. I also have Laura Mercier’s moisturizer and it is the perfect amount of coverage, in my opinion. I wear it as my foundation most days. See below:
I see you guys post on stories about a water challenge…what is this??
The water challenge is just something we say when we are trying to be mindful about drinking our water throughout the day. Sometimes our days can be fueled by so much coffee (and champagne) so we like setting these little “challenges” to remind us to fill up our water bottle and stay hydrated throughout the day. Ideally, you’re aiming to get between 50-100% of your body weight in ounces. Drink up 😉
