I recently came across your blog when I was looking for reviews about switching from an Apple Watch to a Garmin. I’ve had an Apple watch until recently and decided to make the jump and get the Garmin Venu.
I’m running into the same issue figuring out how to accurately track my Peloton strength and bootcamp workouts and was curious if you’d had any luck finding a solution.
I (Heather) am still wearing my Garmin Venu watch and loving it; however, it did take some getting used to! The Apple Watch is so “user friendly” while the Garmin is a techy watch.. something I am not. However, I made the switch and happy I did for a number of reasons. But to answer your specific question, I always just push “cardio” when I am working out. If I am doing an outdoor walk or indoor walk, I will push those specific workouts but otherwise, everything is cardio even if I am just doing strength training (yoga is different.. I will push the yoga button when I do yoga). When I do my HIIT classes, bootcamps, cycles, etc. it’s CARDIO. At the end of the day, you are tracking calories burned based off your heart rate and I find the cardio selection on the watch to be most accurate.
I’m looking for a new lightweight tinted moisturizer for spring/summer…what are your favorites?
These are my absolute favorites that I have and alternate between daily (mine must always have SPF in it.. total deal breaker):
Did you find the treadmill hikes boring at all? I worry the time would go by slowly. Also, since turning 41 my girlfriends are telling me I need to lift weights. I like lagree and pilates but don’t love strength training…thoughts?
Alix: I just did my first two Peloton hikes while on vacation since I had access to a treadmill and LOVED it! I wish I had room for a treadmill in our house because it’s such a nice option to switch things up. I found that the hikes went by fast because you’re constantly switching up the incline and speed, so that keeps you engaged. As for getting older and adding weights into your routine, I agree with your friends 😉 Lifting weights (ideally somewhat heavy weights if you can) helps build/maintain muscle which declines as we age and having more muscle increases metabolism. Weight lifting is also good for bone health and preventing osteoporosis as we age.
Heather: I love the hikes and have added them into my weekly routine when I want lower impact but a GOOD booty and leg burn. Rebecca Kennedy is the toughest instructor I’ve taken so far.. she’s no bullshit and it goes by fast because of changing speed and incline so often.. she also plays good music which helps 🙂
What are you suggestions for safe baby/kid sunscreen?
I use Beauty Counter for myself and Quinn. I love their sunscreen stick to get her face and quick reapplication. Thinkbaby Sunscreen and Badger are also safe options. I like to use the EWG Healthy Living app to check how clean and safe products are.
Alix can you tell me more about Baby Doc Box and the subscription? Maybe you’ve talked about it before?!
The Baby Doc Box is the first subscription box created and curated by a pediatrician. She is a local pediatrician in the Seattle area and I had the chance to meet with her via Zoom and learn all about the boxes. You receive a box every two months during baby’s first year. Each box contains essential items and education for your parenting journey delivered to you. I went in with some girlfriends and gifted this to a dear friend and also plan to sign myself up to receive these boxes.
Do you still drink your Organifi green juices in the morning? Or have you switched to something else?
Yes! Still loving Organifi and the green juices specifically.. they seriously taste perfectly good to me (this is Heather.. which is saying a lot)! I have my green juice and coffee every morning before a workout and I get all those good nutrients in. Use code CHAMPAGNE to get 15% off your order!
Alix – are you still taking prenatal vitamins and if so, which ones?
Yes, I’m taking Ritual prenatal and plan to switch to their postnatal vitamin after delivery. I also take Omega 3, Iron, Vitamin D, probiotic, and collagen supplements.
Are there any protein powders that you consider “off limits?” And if you could choose your top three favorite protein powders, what would they be?
I mean no, I don’t really say anything is “off limits” and it’s all personal preference, but you do want to watch out for added sugars, artificial sweeteners/ingredients and fillers in protein powders. Some people don’t like the taste/idea of stevia in their protein powders (I don’t mind it) but that is commonly found in a lot of “cleaner” protein powders on the market right now. I’m currently working my way through this protein which I like, but plan to switch to either this or this one after as they are a little cleaner. I will also use Vital Proteins collagen when I want something without flavor.
Cheers, H&A
