I had a baby a month ago and with summer right around the corner, I’m in need of a flattering bathing suit that holds everything in and covers my imperfections like the dark brown line going down the center of my tummy (will it ever go away?!) Any suggestions for one pieces or high waisted swim suits?
Yes, that “line” (also known as the linea nigra) will go away but it takes time.. have patience with yourself 🙂 If you’re anything like me, you don’t want to spend a fortune on a bathing suit that may or may not fit you in a few months down the road. And lucky for us, high waisted and one piece swimsuits have made a comeback in the biggest way so you shouldn’t feel out of place or awkward in that style of suit these days! My go-to for inexpensive swimsuits is ASOS and these are the ones I’m eyeing:
What sunscreens do you use on yourself and your kids during the hot summer months? I want something chemical free but effective!
One of our readers sent us the greatest information on chemical free sunscreens and a review of the most frequently used ones on the market. Check out this link if interested: Best and Worst sunscreen for kids.
The following popular sunscreens were a NO GO if you’re looking for effective and chemical free:
Honest sunscreen (burnt so bad)
Coola (chemicals)
Sun Bum (chemicals)
Babyganics (fillers)
The most effective and toxic free sunscreen our reader suggested was by Babo so I just ordered a few off Amazon and so far, it has worked for both me and my boys. I don’t have a completely chemical free house but I’m definitely trying to improve where I can and with sunscreen being something that we put all over our bodies, it’s worth the effort to find something that will protect us from the harsh sun and harsh chemicals.
I also use the Drunk Elephant version here on my face and I’ve never burned. But I’m not wasting that liquid gold on my kids.. they get the Target stuff 😉
What’s the best pool float for babies 6-12 months, specifically what’s your take on those trending neck floaties I see on the market?
I (Heather) have never used the neck floats because they don’t look comfortable and putting a ring around my kids’ neck just seems weird to me. I don’t have any friends who have used it either and just seen the ads on Facebook so not sure I’d go for it. As for floaties I’ve used, I bought these but have never used them. But a ton of my friends have them for their kids and they seem to work! The pools in our neighborhood actually restrict pool wings for kids because it gives them (and their parents) a false sense of security so we’ve always just put our babes in a device like this and been close to them in the pool.
Alix here…we took Quinn to Hawaii when she was 7 months old and used this float and it worked really well! And this one is just #floatiegoals 🙂
I love cereal, especially when my husband is out of town and I don’t have to cook dinner, but when I go shopping there are so many options and too many of them claim to be healthy. What should I be looking for and avoiding? What’s your favorite (but healthy) cereal?
I (Alix) totally ate cereal for dinner last night because NOTHING sounded good…so I hear ya! When it comes to cereal my advice would be to find something with whole grains, high in fiber (fills you up) and low in sugar (esp. added sugars). This cereal has 13 grams of fiber per serving! I always have Cheerios in the house so will I will mix the Bran Buds with Cheerios sometimes. Grape Nuts are also an oldie but an goodie! I like most of Barbara’s cereal like this one and most Nature’s Path and Kashi cereals past the test. I typically top my cereal with nuts (sliced almonds or walnuts) and fruit to fill me up. Also be mindful of portions. If you’re super hungry you might be inclined to eat the whole box of cereal, so make some eggs or a protein rich smoothie to go with it.
Alix-you previewed some super cute new Adidas on Instastories. Can you link them and some similar options?
These are the Adidas that just came in the mail while I was in the OC…I wore them for the first time today and I’m obsessed! I wouldn’t wear them running because I don’t think they have enough support, but perfect for walking, HIIT, and running errands. They remind me of these Nike Flyknit and these APL shoes that are both super light weight. Lastly, these Adidas are on sale and super cute!
Even with summer around the corner, I need a lightweight cardigan or sweater for cooler mornings but nothing too heavy duty. Any cute options you’ve seen?
Yes, I feel the same! It’s still chilly in the morning but I don’t need a full blown sweatshirt. I’ve been on the hunt for something similar so I put together these looks I’m loving:
What’s your Starbucks/coffee order now that it’s warm out? Still want to stick to healthy options!
Alix here…cheers to warmer weather and iced coffee drinks! I mix it up depending on what I’m feeling but typically if I go iced I will get a nitro cold brew or regular cold brew with a splash of almond or soy milk. I also love a venti half black (or green) and passion iced tea (no water, no sweetener) or black iced tea with a splash of lemonade. If I’m going to splurgeeeeee iced dirty chai latte FTW!
I (Heather) have been craving iced chai’s like nobody’s business but that’s always been the case when I’m pregnant (or not, if I’m being honest) 😉 but I try to stick to only 1 a week because they’re loaded with sugar. My go to is an iced latte with cinnamon on top or the same half black tea/half passion tea with a splash of lemonade that Alix gets! So refreshing on a really hot day!
