Alix can you review how you’re liking Athletic Greens and Nutrafol?
I’ve been taking AG for a little over a month now and really like it. I mix one scoop in about 16oz of water + fresh lemon every morning on an empty stomach and before my coffee. The biggest things I’ve noticed so far is my gut health and energy in the morning. It is pricey, but I no longer buy my probiotic which was really $$$ and it can take the place of other supplements you might be taking because this is full of the vitamins, minerals, adaptogens, probiotics, and more. I also love starting my day with a hydrating beverage + fresh lemon before diving into my coffee.
I’m on month 4 of Nutrafol and take the postpartum supplement. I really wish I had started this supplement earlier in my PP journey because I think it’s legit! It really did take about 3 months for me to start noticing the benefits, but I have SIGNIFICANTLY less hair loss in the shower and new hair growth. I got my hair colored last week and my hairdresser commented on how healthy my hair is (esp. since we have been adding in blonde!). I plan to stay on the postpartum supplement until I’m at the one year pp mark then I’ll switch over to the women’s supplement.
I want to ask my husband for a new (non techy) watch for my birthday. Can you link some timeless and chic everyday watches?
I need budget here! LOL! But I will give you a range 😉 Watches continue to go up in value so I think your best bet is to purchase one off a second hand site like Fashionphile where you know it’s authentic. I have received two luxury watches off of this site and it’s legit. Let’s start with under $2,000: Cartier | David Yurman | Hermes. If our budget is higher: Cartier | Rolex | Piaget
How do you like the Skinny Confidential ice roller? Is it better than the rest?
Worth the hype and the price tag. It’s FREEZING. SO SO SO cold and it holds cold for 10x longer than my Amazon roller, which I still have.
I’m having a hard time coming up with meal ideas for my baby (similar age to Kins) can you list some ideas and/or resources for easy meals?
When first starting solids with Kins I downloaded the app Solid Starts and initially went through some of the vegetables and fruit to get ideas on what and how to serve. I will sometimes even pull that up when I’m at the store to get a new idea of what to give her. As for meal ideas, I’m trying more and more to give her what we are having but obviously in a deconstructed and baby safe form.
I get meal ideas from sites like here, here, and here.
What are your favorite at home self tanners? I’m going on vacation for Presidents Day weekend and NEED a tan!
Lux Unfiltered is one of the most popular right now and gives a real glowy tan, which I love. If you want something a little more gradual and understated, Tan-Luxe lotion is great!
What have you learned most from listening to skincare podcasts?
That sunscreen is your best friend and the only secret potion to youthful skin. My favorite sunscreen here.
CGM hype! Levels vs. nutri-sense?
CGM (continuous glucose monitoring) automatically tracks blood glucose (sugar) levels 24/7. You can see your glucose level anytime at a glance without having to do a finger stick. You can also review how your glucose changes over a few hours or days to see trends.
CGM isn’t hype- it’s showing real time glucose levels and can help you make more informed decisions about how to balance your food and exercise. Levels and nutri-sense both work by a tiny sensor inserted under the skin on the back of the arm. The sensor tests glucose every few minutes. A transmitter wirelessly sends the information to a monitor.
I don’t know enough to say which product is better between the two as I think they essentially do the same thing. I’ve looked more into Levels, so I would feel more comfortable recommending that.
I think this can be a helpful tool for someone who is pre-diabetic and trying to prevent becoming type 2 diabetic or someone trying to lose weight. Everyone has a different blood sugar response to different foods and can even have a big spike to foods that are touted as low carb/keto. This is a tool to help you identify foods and patterns that might be causing you to be resistant to weight loss. I’m a big fan of having more data (I like to track sleep and steps, etc.) so I’m a fan of these products depending on your health goals/medical condition.
Public or private school for kiddos and why?
I think this is totally parental preference and a decision based your kids needs and where you live! I (Heather) am a proud product of a public school education and always envisioned sending my kids to the public schools where we lived. But when COVID hit and schools shut down, we began to look at private options and ended up making the switch and feel grateful we were able to do so. I absolutely love my son’s school, his teachers, the education they are receiving, and the community of parents; however, the public schools in our area are excellent. I think with private schools you’re able to really build a community with the parents and you know who every child is in the class. And I know their parents and who my son is asking for a playdate. I also have a relationship with the teachers and on campus staff. But you can also get this in public school if you seek it out.. I just think it’s a little tougher (and also through sports, which my son has met a ton of kids who he will go to middle/high school with down the road). Who knows what the future holds (and what each of my boys will need education-wise) but we do plan to move the boys back to public school for middle and high school to give them a true high school experience and not graduating with a class of 60. In that sense, I think public school gives kids a bit more ”grit” and a dose of real life and not a sheltered bubble. It totally depends on the school, the parents, the kid and is 100% situational but I agree with both options!
Alix says public school cuz she’d never give up the bus lol. Praise the bus drivers!
Nursing bra recommendations that aren’t too bulky/ugly.
This was my favorite!
Do you have any infertility doctors in Seattle you recommend? I remember Alix saying something about it being hard to conceive Kins..?
Yes, it took me 15 months to get pregnant with Kins and I wrote about that journey a bit here and another post about the steps I took to improve my hormones. I went to SRM for a consult, but we did not end up going the IVF route. I did have a fine experience there given the circumstances. I saw my acupuncturist Kristi weekly and took the herbs she prescribed religiously and swear those appointments worked miracles on my body. I also worked with a naturopath who ran a whole bunch of labs and recommended a lot of supplements to help with my egg quality and fertility.
