How do you portion control? If my husband cooks I can’t stop and I go back for seconds/thirds.
I wrote a post a while back about mindful/intuitive eating that might be helpful. If you were my client I would look over your food records and see if you’ve eaten enough earlier in the day. If you’ve skimped calorically or did not have adequate protein and fat, you’re likely going into your dinner meal starving!! You’re setting yourself up to overeat. On a hunger scale of 1 (starving) to 10 (stuffed) you want to be at about a 3-4 before a meal. If you’re a 1-2 you will likely over eat, but if you’re somewhat hungry to hungry then you will be able to be more mindful and eat slower during your meal. Also check in to see if you’ve had enough water during the day as hydration can cause hunger cravings. Another trick is to put out veggies while dinner is being prepared and snack on some extra fiber before your meal or start with a salad or veg before the entree depending on what you’re eating. Lastly, give yourself 5-10 minutes to chill before getting up for another helping. If you’re still legit hungry then get more!
I have a Lululemon gift card- anything you’ve liked recently?
They have some great new colors in! I just got a new pair of aligns in the color delicate mint for spring. Love these biker shorts in color vivid plum. I love my groove pants and define jacket. The oversized scuba 1/2 zip hoodie and align top are so cute!
What are meal/snack ideas that don’t cause bloat? Legit everything bloats me…is there a specific food that causes bloat? Also have you heard of Arrae pills to fight bloat?
Top foods that cause bloat: beans, lentils, broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables, carbonated drinks, apples, onions, garlic, dairy, wheat, and sugar alcohols. Pretty much anything really high can cause bloat if you’re not used to consuming a lot of fiber. A good starting point is working with a gastroenterologist to see if there is anything specific (food allergy/intolerance, etc.) causing you GI symptoms. Working with a skilled dietitian to create an elimination diet to pin point a possible trigger food/s or following a low FODMAPS diet (I wrote a blog post about it here) are also good places to start.
Arrae is touted as a digestive enzyme with a blend that includes ginger, dandelion root, peppermint, etc. that can help relieve GI symptoms, but not something that should be taken daily so you’re better off figuring out the culprit and avoiding it. I do however often recommend digestive enzymes like this one to clients suffer GI symptoms to take before meals to help their body break down different food groups being consumed. These can be helpful to take before a big meal, traveling, or eating out.
Do you have the Dyson Air wrap that everyone seems to be promoting on Insta? Worth it?
We don’t have it and don’t have any plans to buy it. We have this curling iron and love it and don’t feel the need for the very expensive air wrap that does the same thing in our opinion!
Heather- have you moved Parker out of his crib and if so, how did it go?
Nope he and his crib are going off to college together! All kidding aside, my other two had been moved by this point because we were always preparing for another baby and needed the crib. Since Parker is the youngest, I have no intention of moving him until he wants to/starts climbing out. It is so nice having him trapped in his room guys. I will likely move him closer to age 4 when he’s a little easier to reason with 😉
What did you get your husband for his 40th birthday? Why are husbands the worst to shop for!
My husband bought himself a new car for his bday (midlife crisis is fully in effect) so there was nothing I could buy that would ever compare. I got him this levitating shoe display that he had never seen before (hard to do with him) and he thinks is rad. Other people got him really nice bottles of tequila, Snoop’s cookbook that is proudly displayed on my kitchen counter, and Alix got him these sneakers that secretly turn into roller skates as a joke haha.
Can you link the dress you wore for his party?
I really wanted to wear something bright and festive but the weather was gloomy and gross and I just ended up in black as I usually do.. but I love this dress (only $35) and it’s so flattering. I dressed it up with glitzy shoes and jewelry.
What’s your honest opinion on Anine Bing Sweatshirts. Worth the $$?
We both have a few and love them. It’s definitely not a MUST, but they are comfortable and good quality. Here are a few we love:
