I‘m surprising my daughter with a mother daughter trip to Seattle for her 16th birthday. We are spending the first day in Seattle, then doing a day trip to the Forks…then up for anything. Do you lovely ladies have any must see ideas in the Seattle-ish area (that are also acceptable for a 16 year old girl) Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated!
What a fun trip! Here are some ideas: obviously Pike’s market to get fresh flowers or just walk around and get an original Starbucks lol, you could take the Bainbridge ferry to get awesome views of the skyline, ride the big wheel if you’re brave, walk over to the Space Needle but if it’s a crappy day don’t go up, but overall I’d suggest eating your way through the city 🙂 Tom Douglas has some of the very best restaurants in/near downtown Seattle. Lola or Etta’s for breakfast & Serious Pie for lunch.. can’t be beat!
I’m looking for a pair white jeans for spring. Not skinny or super distressed please. Any recs?
I love these | these | these (FYI I never spend more than $100 on white denim because I just don’t wear them as much as my jeans)
What is your favorite lipstick/lip gloss?
This one and this one are my go-to lippies!
Looking for some spring nail inspo. I’m thinking a blue or green-ish color for spring…thoughts? Any favorite colors?
I (Heather) stick to pretty much the same rotation of colors of neutral, dark purple aka almost black or bright red so I am not the best person to ask! If you want something bright and fun for spring, I’d go more turquoise maybe?! Kelly green is very in right now I just don’t know if I’d be brave enough to do it on my nails! OPI Gelato on My Mind is a pretty easter color but it’s bright! What I find is that I typically regret a new crazy nail color and then I’m stuck with it for two-three weeks so I stick to the basics cuz it’s what I am.. basic 😉
Alix here…as you saw on IG today I love color in the spring and summer. Rich girls and Po-Boys is my favorite OPI blue color. I also love a mint and That’s Hula-rious OPI color is really pretty. Lavender is also a favorite and You’re Such a BudaPest OPI is pretty for spring.
How often do you get facials or other treatments? I’m trying to get in a good beauty routine of regular facials, peels, micro-derm, etc. Can you share what you do and how often?
I (Heather) get monthly facials and just started a round of microneedling (a series of 3-6 is recommended every 4 weeks). I add in peels and microderm when appropriate but let me esthetician tell me. I recently started going back to Sapien Skin in South Lake Union (Stephanie and Jess are insanely good but be prepared for them to tell you everything you don’t want to hear!) as they do comprehensive facials without all the ”add ons.” How am I supposed to know when I need a little derm, peel (also why kind of peel?!) or micro needling?! Their facials include all of the above without add ons.. they just do what your skin needs and they truly CARE about results. Find someone who spends the time with you to really build your routine otherwise you are just flushing money down the toilet.
After reading your blog post I’m trying to go more natural with my beauty products. Any brands you like?
Are you talking about skincare or makeup?! Find a professional who can give you advice on actual skincare but the advice I (Heather) have received is that natural beauty products are doing nothing.. sorry lol. With that said, I still love a Drunk Elephant cleansing balm to rinse off the day and then I layer in my medical grade products. Now if you’re talking about makeup, that is entirely different! Love a natural makeup line, specifically Ilia.
What are your thoughts on intermittent fasting for weight loss? Does coffee break a fast?
If you have a history of disordered eating then I don’t recommend IF. If you’re a female in your menstrual years and/or also trying to get pregnant I do not recommend going for periods >12 hours fasting. If you’re someone in peri menopause or menopause looking to lose weight, have metabolic syndrome, etc. if may be beneficial to try for a few weeks (no more than 3 weeks at a time). The majority of studies on IF have been in men (who are completely different from us on a hormone level). Black coffee does not break a fast.
I was recently diagnosed with a possible fatty liver. I have been trying to research the best diet to help, but I’m getting conflicting information from different websites. Do you have any information you can share about this and basically diet guidelines? Thank you!
NIH is a resource I trust and this article may be helpful for you. Here is an article for Today’s Dietitian which I also trust for nutrition information that could be helpful. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend anything extreme and encourage you to stick to a basic healthy diet (focus on fruits, veggies, lean protein, complex carbs) while minimizing simple sugars, alcohol, and dairy. Hope that helps!
Have you guys seen any cute spring tops? I have to go back into the office (blech) and want to invest in a couple to wear with nice jeans as well as a couple that have a lower price point.
Here are some cute options at different price points:
