I wanted to get your opinion on the the Daily Harvest smoothies. Was looking to have some options on hand for desperate times once our babe arrives and I’m starving but can’t see straight lol. Thoughts on them?
I think it’s a great idea! I ordered these for my sister and good friend who are both new mamas. For a new mom especially convenience is everything and most convenience foods aren’t that nutritious, but these are! Each smoothie cup has the nutrition facts on it, so check to see it has adequate protein (15-25g) , fat (10-20g), and fiber (6+g) and add what it’s missing to fill you up! Here is my link for 3 free smoothies!
Do you girls listen to any podcasts and if so, what’s your favorite?
Heather: I am in need of some new podcasts, especially once P is born, but the only ones I’ve listened to consistently are The Skinny Confidential and Reality Steve, who interviews the Bachelor and Bachelorette contestants.. it’s my guilty pleasure! Dirty John is a really good podcast and it’s coming to Bravo I think as a show and I can’t wait even though I know how it ends ha. Lastly, any murder mystery podcast like Serial or How to Make a Murderer.. I’m totally into it.
Alix: I’m more of a book on tape kinda person at the moment, but loved Dirty John and Up and Vanished. I also have some nutrition podcasts I really like…The Love Food Podcast, The Embodied & Well Mom Show, and Food Psych. I also sometimes listen to Off the Vine with Kaitlyn Bristowe if she has a good guest 🙂
With September right around the corner, can you give me some inspiration ideas for transitioning your wardrobe from summer to fall?
Check out our Style board on Pinterest here.. it’s where we get most of our inspo! But we’re all about layering your lighter pieces from summer and topping it with a cute lightweight cardigan or flannel as it gets chillier. Also loving duster cardigans with ripped jeans and mules. When in doubt, throw on an outfit like this (because who doesn’t have black jeans, sneaks, white T and grey sweater in their closet?) I mean, Alix’s outfit in this happy hour post is basically the perfect outfit to transition into September!
Heather- what baby items have you bought for Parker so far? What are your must haves for the newborn stage?
Last weekend, I had a mini meltdown as to how unprepared we are for baby #3 (he has a room.. but no furniture and basically nothing to wear) so I went a little crazy at Target, Home Goods and good ol Amazon getting some items checked off the list. These are the essentials I bought this round.. much more to come on this topic, though:
Alix- can you share your lactation recipes you made for your sister this past weekend?
Yes! I plan to do a write up of all the lactation recipes I made for my sister and plan to make more to get Heather all stocked up as well 🙂 I usually make new mamas this granola recipe, but for my sister I decided to use my favorite Goop “Clean Granola” recipe and add brewers yeast (one of the key ingredients in lactation recipes). The brewers yeast definitely has a little aftertaste to it, but mixed with yogurt or milk the granola still tastes good.
Can you do a roundup of all the items you think are essential to have in your fridge/pantry on an everyday basis? I find myself going grocery shopping and only buying things that I’m craving and then I run out of food 3 days later!
I feel ya! First of all don’t go grocery shopping hungry…just a set up for impulsive food buys 😉 I wrote up my weekly grocery list in this post, so hopefully that can be a good guide for you.
My best advice is to develop an outline of what your meals are going to look like for the week and make a list, so you can cut down on how many times you’re having to go to the grocery store during the week. I also keep a white board on my fridge, so when I run out of an item I remember to write it down. Then I have a running list for my next grocery store run even… if i don’t plan to use it right away I will buy it so I have my staples stocked up at all times.
What are your favorite sneakers to wear to the gym?
Heather: these, these and these are my favorite sneaks for the gym (not running) and these are my go-to for running/incline walking.
Alix: I’ve been running indoors and outdoors in these (they are on sale score!) These are my go to if just doing HIIT or cardio and weights. I really want these in all black!
OK question on the smoothie- every time I put chia seeds in they don’t blend all the way and they are weird and crunchy in the smoothie. Is there a trick I’m missing?? I have a vitamix so that bad boy is strong.
Nope! Not doing anything wrong….chia seeds will stay whole for the most part and unlike flax seeds that’s OK for digestion and absorption of nutrients. But, if you don’t like the texture you can use ground chia seeds (they sell them grounded up or you can grind in your coffee grinder) or sub for ground flax seeds.
Thanks for sending in your questions and have a great weekend! xx
