Where did you guys stay in Palm Springs? I know it was a girls trip, but would it be a good spring break spot with the kids?
We stayed at the JW Marriott. We both grew up coming to this hotel as kids/teens and it was nostalgic to return. The property is amazing and very kid and family friendly. Definitely a great place to take the kids for spring break.
I’m looking for a PNW workhorse jacket: black, parka length, with a hood, water resistant a plus. Any recommendations?
My Nike jacket is literally the most perfect PNW jacket and I get complimented every time I wear it. It’s basically a sleeping bag I can walk around in. I can’t find my exact one anymore, except on Poshmark and Amazon, so I am linking this almost idential one (it’s men’s but I would 100% buy it and just size down). I think the next best thing is anything North Face or Patagonia.. tried and true.
Alix what do you think about dry January and hard 75?
I think hard 75 is really intense and I’m not a big fan of extremes. My approach to nutrition and fitness is that if you’re consistent with both and have balance then you never need make extreme changes. I like the idea of paying attention to nutrition, exercise, water intake, reading more etc. but it shouldn’t feel like punishment. If it’s a chore then it’s not something you will maintain the rest of the year- then what’s the point.
If you like the idea of hard 75 maybe try it for a month first and assess from there. Create goals that are sustainable.
I like dry January. It gives you a chance to take a break from alcohol and create new routines. It seems like a socially acceptable (even trendy) reason not to drink socially, which can be the biggest challenge for most. When I significantly cut back on drinking the first 12 months was the trickiest because I needed to create new routines in the evening. Making a cocktail to sip on while making dinner wasn’t it anymore. Once I got used to my new routine it’s been really easy. You’ll think of it less, want it less, and it might not even taste good anymore. I really only like the taste of a crisp glass of quality champagne now 😉
I know you’re supposed to drink your Athletic Greens first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, but sometimes I forget. Is it still be beneficial to drink later in the day?
Yes, empty stomach is ideal to optimize absorption of some of the nutrients in AG1, but it still very beneficial to drink any time of the day. If you miss it in the morning, definitely drink it whenever you remember/feel like it.
I just got my Vitamin D levels check per your recommendation and my levels were a little low. Which supplement do you recommend taking?
Good job getting labs drawn! I like the vitamin D + K drops from Athletic Greens or these drops off Amazon. but I recently got these Omega + Vitamin D + K because I only need to take one pill to get it all in. I’m working on less supplements this year 😉 Depending on how low your levels are you likely need between 2-5k IU a day. Ask your doctor what they recommend for you.
I’m so pale right now and can’t fine the Drunk Elephant D-bronzi drops anywhere. Do you have a recommendation for a similar product?
I had a similar problem recently so I went on TikTok and found one of my favorite makeup girls applying these drops. They are $$$ and the bottle is small, but I will say a little goes a long way with this product and I like the application more than the DE drops.
I’m seeing influencers “sneaking” supplements like colostrum into their kids smoothies. Is this something you recommend? Is this safe?
I have also been seeing this and it makes me uncomfortable. Adding supplements like colostrum or other powders is dangerous IMO. These are not FDA approved and mostly made for adults >18 years old. I’m all about adding things like hemp seeds, chia seeds, spinach, ground flax, avocado, etc. if you want to boost your child’s smoothie.
I got a Lululemon gift card for Christmas and can’t decide what I should get with it! What would you spend $200 on?!
YASS!! Some faves right here:
How often should you weight train vs. cardio for weight loss? I’m trying to get in shape this year and not sure where to start.
There aren’t specifics here but IMO the ratio of strength training to cardio should be like 3:1. Yes, we need some cardio for cardiovascular health, but strength training is what is going to be most impactful when wanting to change your body and boost metabolism. I would say a good place to start is like 3-4 days of strength training and 1-2 days cardio. The BIGGEST game changer is walking. Adding in 2-4 mile walks at a moderate pace will change your health status like no other!
