Have you listened to any good podcasts lately? I was obsessed with Dr. Death, Up and Vanished and Dirty John and need some new material for long car rides to work.
Obsessed with all of those podcasts, too and can’t WAIT for Dirty John to come to Bravo.. the trailer looks SO good! We just came across Season 2 of Up and Vanished and plan to start it next week. Our other favorite podcasts are Skinny Confidential and Off the Vine with Kaitlyn Bristowe.
If you’re wanting a nutrition/health related podcast look into Real Health Radio, The Love, Food Podcast, The Embodied & Well Mom Show, and Nutrition Matters.
I’ve heard that beef liverwurst is a good source of protein but it does not sound appetizing at all! What are your thoughts?
Organ meats are packed with nutrients like protein, iron, vitamin b12, vitamin A, zinc, and folate. But these nutrients are also found in other foods, so if you don’t like liverwurst or other organ meats there is no compelling health reason to force yourself to eat it.
I want a new blanket scarf for fall.. which ones do you have or are loving lately?
I have this one and love how big and chunky it is.. truly something that will keep you warm this winter. I’m really obsessing over all of these:
I just bought these boots but don’t know how to style them. Help!
Mmmmk those boots have been on my wishlist so I’m jealous you get to rock them now! Western style booties are big for fall and can be styled so many ways! You can wear them with an oversized sweater dress like this. Favorite way is with cuffed skinny jeans like this. But you could even wear them with overalls like this!
Alix – I saw your matcha latte on Instastories but didn’t catch the recipe. Can you share?
Yes! I saved the recipe on our “nutrition” highlights on Instagram that you can screen shot to reference, but here is what I did. I heated about 12 oz of Pressed Juicery’s almond milk stove top (you can use any type of milk or even hot water if you prefer). Then I added that to my Vitamix with the following ingredients: 1 scoop Vital Proteins, 1 tbsp Green Dream, 1 tbsp coconut butter, 1 tsp ashwagandha, 1 tsp matcha, 1 tsp pure maple syrup then blend for about 1 minute. Sprinkle with cinnamon and enjoy.
My sister used my recipe this week and loved it too! Seriously delicious and it’s a warmer option in the morning than my green smoothie 😉
I’ve seen some bloggers with blue and orange lens glasses when they’re working on the computer. How necessary are they and what’s the purpose?
Yes I’ve been seeing these glasses all over the place too and essentially what they claim to do is protect your eyes from UV light and blue light from screens (computer, TV, phone, etc) and artificial lighting. Blue light blocking glasses have gained popularity as a way to decrease eye strain if your someone that spends a lot of time in front of screens. Also, when people talk about healthy sleep hygiene they will often list decreasing screen time or not having any bright lights or screen an hour before bed time because the blue light can interfere with the bodies’ ability to produce natural sleep hormones.
Neither of us have tried them yet, but definitely interested and see the benefits of wearing them especially at night. If you’re someone getting frequents headaches and in front of the screen a lot throughout the day it might be worth a shot! They make some kind of cute ones too like these, these and these.
Heather – what oils and/or belly butter do you use to prevent/heal stretch marks?
So far, I’ve been lucky this pregnancy and haven’t gotten any NEW stretch marks.. but the ones I got with Cam are getting a tiny bit darker and starting to show a bit more as my stomach grows. But every night, I oil up with bio oil, Erbaviva stretch mark oil, or belly butter. I just rotate these three products.. no rhyme or reason to it.. just whatever I grab first. As we all know, stretch marks are hereditary so it doesn’t really matter how much oil you lather on your body, some people will inevitably get stretch marks.
What I will say is that you have to be patient with yourself and your body after you give birth. Just like with the weight, which WILL come off eventually, your stretch marks will fade with time. It took my stretch marks about 6 months to truly fade from purple to white after I had Cam and in hindsight, it wasn’t that bad. Just continue to oil up and say your prayers 😉
What are the top key vitamins/nutrients women need to supplement as we head into the dark months?
Bye bye sunshine…hello vitamin D3 supplements! I would recommend taking at least 2,000iu vitamin D3 a day, but consult with your MD of course. I (Alix) take 5,000iu a day and just had my vitamin D labs checked and they were spot on! It also wouldn’t hurt to start adding in some vitamin C (once you’re sick taking vitamin C won’t help…it’s too late) zinc, and elderberry into the mix. I always have these lozenges on hand. Sometimes it can be difficult to eat as many fresh fruits and veggies as we did in the warm summer months, so consider adding in a multivitamin. I’ve never tried this, but if you want to get fancy I’ve heard great things about this immunity supplement. And get your flu shot of course 😉 Just got mine Monday and my arm is still sore…oooof!
Thanks for sending in your questions! We actually got a lot this week but like to stick to 8 per week so if you don’t see your question here, look for it next week! xx, H & A
