What is mushroom coffee? I’m seeing this everywhere and confused about the benefits…sounds gross lol!
Lol it doesn’t taste gross, but it does have a different taste then traditional coffee for sure. Essentially it is boiled down mushrooms (specifics kinds of mushrooms are used for their different medicinal properties) blended with coffee. So you’re getting the benefits of coffee and mushrooms. The different types of mushrooms typically used are cordyceps, chaga, lion’s mane, turkey tail, and reishi. The brand you’re probably seeing the most is Four Sigmatic and I’ve also posted about a few of their products I’ve tried. Here are the claimed health benefits: helps with focus and concentration, high in antioxidants, decreases oxidative stress, aids in liver health and digestion, increased focus without jitters, etc. Mushroom coffee typically has less caffeine than a regular cup of coffee and is less acidic. It’s pricey though!
What is on your gals Christmas list?
Alix: I don’t really want/need a whole lot right now, but that doesn’t mean I don’t want anything…duh! I asked for a gift card/money to Skin Spirit in Seattle where I get my facials, products, and a little botox 😉 I’ve been bad and buying myself stuff while shopping for others because #sales. I just got this puffer (in red) and these leggings which I’ve been eying for a while. I also love this gift set if I didn’t already have these. I would also love a gift card for a massage…always on my wish list.
Heather: I’m the same and just want money to get facials once I get cleared by the doc and my hormones even out. But if Santa thinks I’ve been extra good this year, I wouldn’t be mad about getting this down jacket (worth the splurge IMO and half the price of Canada Goose), these slippers, this Barefoot Dreams blanket and this sherpa jacket to throw on after a workout.
My friend’s baby girl is turning one this Saturday and I need to get a gift… I’m totally out of the baby loop. Any suggestions!?
Baby girl clothes from Zara are SO cute! This, this, this and this are also adorable choices. Melissa and Doug is always a safe bet. Ideas here, here, and here.
Alix- How is no dairy going? Do you feel like it’s helping your skin? I’ve been struggling with my skin for a few months and I don’t know why it’s gotten so bad!
Well, I’ve only been really strict with no dairy for about a month now and my facialist told me dairy hormones can last in your system for 30-45 days. So you can drink a cows milk latte today and in 30 days get a breakout from it- crazy huh?! I definitely feel like it helps my skin and I’m sensitive to the hormones in dairy so I’m trying my best. I’ve also become religious about washing my wash before exercise and having a completely clean face (not even face lotion) for workouts then washing it ASAP after. I think that is so important. Good luck!!
Heather – have you found a good high support sports bra once you start to workout again? I am bigger busted and breastfeeding so I need something with lots of support. Help!
Yes! There aren’t any good sports bras out there for us larger busted girls! If anyone has found a good one, let us know in the comments. These are the ones I’ve heard great reviews on and plan to try:
I am attending my husband’s work holiday party and need a dress.. something appropriate, not too skimpy but still glitzy and glamorous!
I have to find dresses for similar events and it’s not always the easiest! Here are some I’m loving:
Did either of you deal with any sort of postpartum – whether is be depression, anxiety or baby blues?
We plan to dedicate an entire post to this topic specifically so stay tuned for more. But to answer you and make a long story short: YES. We both dealt with postpartum baby blues/anxiety.. we aren’t going to say it was full blown depression because it was never diagnosed but SO many people (I think MOST women) go through it one way or another. After you have a baby, you lose all control and handling those emotions is not easy. Also, as soon as the sun would go down (it’s literally called “sundowning.. google it), waves of anxiety would hit. Would the baby sleep? How many times would they be up? The unknown caused so much stress. We don’t think there’s enough literature out there addressing postpartum anxiety and how normal it is so we definitely plan to write out our own experiences in hopes it helps another sleepy mom out there understand what she’s going through and normalize the topic. In the meantime, stay strong mama! This too shall pass 🙂
What do you add to your Daily Harvest smoothies and why?
Good question! I love my Daily Harvest smoothies, but if I want to have them for a meal I need to make some additions or it’s not going to check all the boxes. A lot of their smoothies are lower in protein and fat so I will add protein powder and fats (avocado, coconut oil, chia, or flax) to enhance it and doesn’t change the flavor. I will also add spirulina, maca powder, and adaptogens if I’m feeling extra 😉 Also read my post on smoothies here so you know what to look for when building a well balanced smoothie.
