My little one is 21 months old and still cries when I put him in his crib and leave the room at night. He’s sleep trained and does his 12 hours at night but always cries when I leave the room. Did you ever experience something similar?
Heather here.. and YES, I continue to have experience with this! My son turns 2 this month and cries when I leave the room for both naps and bedtime and it’s normal.. the 2 year old sleep regression is very real. I know… ANOTHER regression? YUP. This article does a great job identifying why the 2 year old sleep regression happens and how to cope.
Basically, there are a number of reasons why it could be happening: separation anxiety, big life changes (hello, my son just got a new baby brother.. mind blowing for him), longer awake times, refusing a nap (UGHHHH) and nightmares. Keep being consistent with sleep and only giving in when absolutely necessary. If my son gets so worked up that I know he can’t calm himself down, I absolutely go back into his room and give him the attention he’s needing.. but never for longer than 5 minutes. I’ll either read him a book, sing him a song or just rock him for a couple of minutes and leave. I tell him to lay down, it’s night night time and mommy loves him. PEACE! Consistency has always been my thing and I think it works. So listen to your child’s cues and do what’s best for the both of you.
What are your best recommendations for preventing getting sick? Both my husband and son are sick and I’m trying to do anything possible not to get it!
Ugh! My house has been going through that too (and everyone else I know!)…I wrote a whole post on boosting immunity here so give that a read. I unintentionally left out one of my fave products from doTERRA in that post. On Guard essential oil is amazing and they also make capsules, cough drops, and more using this blend.
With Quinn having HFM this past week we have been washing our hands like crazy and have hand sanitizer all over the house lol! Also don’t share water bottles and food with your kids. Quinn is always trying to take bites of my food and drink from my water bottle and I usually let her, so this has been a good wake up call to not share right now. Also don’t finish off your kid’s plate when they don’t finish their food. Anything to stop the spread of germs right now. Good luck!!
What are your favorite shoes for running long distance? Would love to see a post on all of your top picks for running gear.
Since I am brand new to the running world (obviously H speaking), I don’t have the expertise to speak on this topic; however, I was just fitted for running shoes so I’ll link what was recommended to me. I went to a running store here in Seattle and spoke with the experts. They watched me run, identified that I pronate (hence why I am having some hip pain after running) and recommended a supported shoe with extra cushion.
I tried on a few different shoes but the best shoe for my running style was the Brooks Adrenaline 19. PS they are NOT cute. I was told that I want the shoe to be comfortable but you don’t want to “notice it” on your feet and when I ran around the block in these shoes, I didn’t feel them. So light, so airy. Clouds on my feet.
Before this, I was just wearing Nikes and while they are fine for shorter distances, they are not recommended for long distance runs. I’ll let Alix speak to the different shoes she’s worn because she has experience with a number of brands. Lastly, we plan to do an entire post on favorite running gear from tights to gloves to windbreakers to shoes. Stay tuned!
Alix: I answered a similar question here and linked some shoes I like in that post. However, I did just get a new pair of running shoes this week as well because it was time to retire my Nike’s and I’m trying out Saucony shoes this time. I got their Ride ISO shoes in black and they aren’t too ugly for running shoes lol! I was able to go with a more basic shoe because I have custom inserts for my shoes that give me good cushion.
Alix- love your new Apple Watch band! Can you link it?
Thanks! It’s linked here and super cheap off Amazon. It’s the color PF5 and FYI it took about a month to get to me, but I love it!
How do you make the celery juice at home? Which is more cost effective to buy it at Pressed or make your own?
I go between buying 5/$20 at Pressed Juicery and making my own. I went to Costco over the weekend and got a ton of celery, so when I go that route it is definitely cheaper to make my own.
When I make my own I either use my juicer or lately I’ve just been making it in my Vitamix. I don’t really measure anything when I make it, but I put in a few large handfuls of washed celery and probably about 1/4-1/2c water and blend on high for about 1 minute. I use a nut milk bag to strain it or you could use cheesecloth. I’m not adding anything to it- just drinking it straight up. I’ve been doing this for about 1-2 solid months now and notice a significant difference in my gut and skin health! I plan to write a whole post on it 😉
Do you have any good overnight oats recipes that aren’t sugar laden?
I keep my overnight oats really simple! I love using an almost empty jar of nut butter and filling it with 1/2 c dry oats + 1 cup milk/dairy alt + 2 T chia seeds + cinnamon + 1 tsp vanilla extract and shake it all up and leave in fridge overnight. In the morning I will top with berries and/or granola. If you don’t have an almost empty jar of nut butter just use a mason jar and you can add a scoop of nut nutter or nuts in the morning. You can also add in protein powder or collagen to up the total protein.
Pinterest also has a ton of overnight oat recipes if you want to get a little fancy…this and this recipe sound good!
I want a cute pair of joggers that are appropriate for work but can also be dressed down. Seen any that are purchase-worthy?
My favorite nice joggers are from Aritzia and can be found (on sale!) here. There aren’t a ton of other joggers out there that can transition from the street to work and these absolutely can.
I want some new necklaces good for layering.. what are your faves right now?
We’re kind of having a moment with Kristin Cavallari’s collection Uncommon James. Loving this and this. This Baublebar necklace is already layered for you.. no need to put any thought into it! This is my initial necklace that I wear everyday and layer with other pieces.. it’s a great push present or birthday gift! And still obsessed with coin and zodiac jewelry. Love | Love | Love.
