We are heading to the courthouse this month to officially and FINALLY adopt our five year old foster kiddo! It’s been a long, hard road and we are ready to make him ours. I need a dress for the ceremony. Not too flashy, timeless since we’re having a photographer shoot the ceremony, but also something celebratory. Ideas!? I’ve looked everywhere and nothing is really hitting the mark. Thank you!
Congratulations.. what a beautiful milestone for you and your family! When I’m looking for something timeless and classic, I either go Nordstrom, JCrew, Banana Republic, LOFT or Anthropologie so check those stores out. But here are some ideas:
What are your thoughts on crystal face rollers like the jade roller? Nordstrom has a lot called “skin gym“?
Heather here and I haven’t used one yet but thinking I need to buy one cuz everyone’s all over this trend. While jade rollers are having their moment in the spotlight right now, they have actually been a staple in Chinese skincare routines since the 7th century. You can think of them as handheld mini face massagers. They can be made of beautiful green jade or pink quartz, and are believed to have healing and protective properties for the skin, including boosting blood circulation, reducing swelling, and allowing for deeper penetration of skincare products. So basically I’m sold and buying one now..
Heather- tell me more about Headspace! How often are you using the app and are you finding it helpful to manage stress and anxiety?
Headspace is a meditation app that I recently started using to help control my anxiety and I REALLLLLY love it. Right now, I only do it for 3 minutes a day because honestly, that’s all the time I have to dedicate to this practice. However, in time I hope to increase the time I am able to meditate because I find it so calming. I typically like to meditate at the same time every day and for me, that’s the boys’ nap time around 1:30 pm. I sit in my room with the lights low and wait for them all to be quiet/asleep so I can really clear my head. I started with the “Basics” so I can learn to meditate and hope to move on to more concentrated meditation specifically geared for anxiety and stress management. More to come on this topic as I learn more 🙂
This may be TMI but how do you wash your gym clothes and keep them from smelling after a sweaty workout?
Ugh! I need to be better about this…I do so much laundry these days (messy toddler problems!) I’ve been getting lazy on giving my workout clothes a little extra TLC. You definitely want to wash them separately and differently than you do other clothing items, towel, etc. I just read an article about how you should be hang drying your super sweaty leggings after a workout instead of balling them up and throwing them into the laundry hamper (this is of course if you can’t wash right away which is best) I will also soak my clothes in 1:4 white vinegar to water solution before throwing into the washer to help get the stink out.
This article by Health Magazine gives some really good tips, tricks, and reminders when washing workout clothes.
Do you use any sort of microneedling device on your skin like the GloPro?
Alix: No, buuuut I just bought a 3 session package to start microneedling in April! I’m doing it mostly for acne scars, so I’m waiting a bit longer to get my skin under control (no breakouts) before starting. I’m really excited, but nervous to try it! I’ll keep you guys posted on my experience.
Heather: I haven’t bought the GloPro yet but it’s next on my list. One of my girlfriends says she just started doing that and then the Dr. Dennis Gross Peel Pads afterwards and it’s life changing for her skin. Microneedling really allows the products to absorb into your pores.. isn’t that what we all want when we spend this much money on our skincare?! YES. So I think it’s a wise investment for sure.
Is there a major difference in the brand of collagen peptides? And types of collagen? Type 1 type 2 type 3?
Really interesting question…unfortunately there isn’t a ton of science and research to help us navigate which type is “best” and it really depends on what results you’re hoping for. Some people take collagen supplements for hair, skin, nails while others are more focused on joint health or gut health. There are actually over a dozen types of collagen, but 3 are the most classified as type 1, 2, or 3.
Most products on the market are hydrolyzed (simply meaning the amino acid chains are broken down so they dissolve better) type 1 or a combination of type 1 and 3 (hair, skin, nails and joint health specific). Lets remember that the FDA doesn’t regulate these products, so it’s best to find a brand that is third party tested. Vital Proteins and Primal Kitchen products both have. My sister uses NeoCell Super Collagen (it’s type 1 and 3) and feels like she’s noticing more of a difference using it vs. Vital Proteins. I plan to try this brand next since my VP is almost out! I’ll keep ya posted. There are also options like Ancient Nutrition claims to have 5 types of collagen.
If you’re confused on the different types and which “type” supports specific functions in the body I encourage you to read this article. It breaks it all down really nicely!
