Do either of you get lash extensions? I see so many bloggers doing them and I’m interested in trying!
Heather: I had lash extensions before I got married back in 2012 and loved them at the time. They are pretty high maintenance because you have to get them refilled every few weeks.. and it’s not cheap. I found that as my refill date approached, my fake lashes would get tangled in each other and some would even point down and it didn’t feel great. However, I loved the way they looked after each fill and you honestly don’t need any makeup during the day when you have lashes. But fast forward to the day I had them removed entirely and cue the tears. You will have NUBS no matter WHAT someone tells you. They will tell you that the way THEY apply lashes won’t rip out your real lashes. They’ll say they use special, “sensitive” glue to keep your lashes in tact. LIES. All LIES!!! You WILL have nubs. You will have NO lashes left and it will take months and months of using lash serum and collagen peptides to get your natural lashes back to “normal.” I will never ever ever get lashes again.. I’d rather apply a false lash for the nights I’m going out and want something fuller. Ardell lashes are my fave.
Alix: Lashes are one department I got lucky in and have naturally long and dark lashes, so I’ve never been tempted to try extensions and even less tempted once I heard H’s experience. No thanks!
I want a new jean or moto jacket for spring/summer. Have you seen anything you love recently?
Yep this a staple piece for your closet for those cooler summer nights.. loving a jean, moto or army jacket: one | two (draping is so flattering)| three |four | five
Alix what was that lactation granola recipe you make for your friends? Or any other recs you have?
Yes! I wrote a whole post here of recipes I like to make new mamas. I also love the idea of sending them a gift certificate for Daily Harvest so they can order smoothies and other goodies to keep them nourished. These lactation energy bites look bomb, ummm I might make these lactation cookies for myself now (no I’m not lactating), or you can make her Perfect Bars which are high in fat and protein perfect for lactating.
I love Orange Theory (and know you guys do too) and I’ve heard different things about starting with weights vs. cardio. Is one better for you and fat loss?
If fat loss is your goal then weights first because you will be able to lift heavier weights and your heart rate will be elevated for more caloric burn going into your cardio. If you’re training for a race (or endurance is your goal) then you want to start with cardio. Basically depending on what your personal fitness goal is is where you want to start so you have the most energy to give during that section of class in this case.
Personally I like getting the cardio done first and feel like I get a more energetic start to my workout. The best choice is based upon what you prefer IMO because you’re going to work harder if you’re mentally into it. If you hate starting with weights but think that will help you burn muscle, but you’re annoyed and not working hard then it doesn’t matter and you’re not maximizing your potentially workout and just start where you like. The fact is you’re getting physical activity and that’s what matters most health wise! Make sense?
Do your toddlers still nap? My almost three year old is refusing naps 3-4 days a week and I’m wondering if it’s time to drop the nap?
Heather: Jackson stopped napping right before his third birthday and I never forced it upon him again. He started to fight it and I figured it wasn’t worth the battle anymore. I still have him do “quiet time” when his younger brothers are sleeping so it gives me some chill time too. He hangs out downstairs or in his room and plays independently. He’s never had a problem playing on his own and using his imagination so this is the perfect time for him to really have some “me time” lol 😉 We all need it.
Now, there have been days where I’m like OK this kid needs a NAP and I have forced it on him but it’s usually after an hour long fit and he passes out. These don’t happen often. He goes to bed at night between 7-7:30 and passes out before his head even hits the pillow. And more often than not, he’s ASKING to go to sleep at night so I think there are pros and cons to dropping the nap.
Alix: Quinn will be 3 in August and definitely has days she is on nap strike. I call it “rest time” in her crib and she will often play in there a while and then fall asleep, but some days she plays in her crib a little then cries and eventually I’ll call it. I’ve also been doing some stroller naps with her like 30-45 mins to take the edge off then early bed time! I know she still needs the rest time, so not in a rush to drop the nap.
What’s your take on the overall (long and short) trend that’s back? I feel like I get transported back to middle school every time I see a pair!
We’re into it.. especially as a mom! They’re so easy and effortless. Loving all of these:
What is your morning coffee routine and what coffee machines do you each have? Do you use a frother too?
Heather: I either make a whole milk latte or whole milk cappuccino in the morning with two scoops of vital proteins for added protein. We have a Nespresso machine and no complaints.. no frother for me because I hate foam.. and I always make sure to have my reusable straws with me at all times (have you seen my rant about Whole Foods’ AWFUL paper straws?! NEVER AGAIN!).
Alix: My husband makes me pour over coffee most mornings and I use this frother to steam my non dairy milk or I like this creamer. We also have this Nespresso and I will make a coffee or americano with it. I’m obsessed with our electric tea kettle to make our coffee pour overs, an americano, or tea.
I need a new bathing suit for the summer but it needs to be “family friendly” aka something I can wear to the kiddie pool without popping out or showing my entire backside 😉
So Athleta has some really good “mom” suits.. and by this I just mean a bit more coverage (no one needs to see your butt crack at the kiddie pool ok). Target and H&M also has a great selection. Here’s what we think would be appropriate:
Thanks for your questions this week! Happy weekend!
