TGIF! Did this week seem really long to anyone else? While Heather is busy living it up in NYC and Boston this weekend (her food, shopping, and champs insta stories are giving me serious FOMO) I’ll be holding down the fort in Seattle. Good news though..the weather in Seattle is looking quite promising…hello sunshine + low 60’s (never thought I’d be so excited for low 60’s). I’ll cheers to that! Happy hour questions are below, so pour yourself a glass of bubbles and enjoy!
I’ve been considering lash extensions and wondered if you’ve ever had them?
This is Heather and I used to have lash extensions back before my wedding in 2012. At the time, I absolutely loved them. I got them done at a nail salon in downtown Seattle called Myano because the girl I went to came highly recommended by a coworker at the time. If you live in Seattle and need a lash girl, go to Rose at Myano. Sweetest ever. Ok but there is a not so glamorous side of lash extensions. First and foremost, as they grow out they get tangled in each other and sometimes flip downwards which can be pretty painful on your eyelids. You have to use tweezers to get them uncrossed and sometimes you just have to pull one out – which means you’re pulling out your real lash. Not cute. Also, it’s pretty expensive to maintain. I think I went every few weeks to get them refilled but I’ve heard people having to go every 2 weeks, which is a little cray cray. Anyways, I eventually let all of mine fall off because I was ready to be done with that beauty regime. Now the part that no one talks about… when you’re done with lash extensions, your real lashes are NUBS. Like, little itty bitty sad excuses for lashes. It took almost a year for my real lashes to become normal again. I used, and continue to use, Neulash to make my natural lashes grow. Long story short, if I could go back I probably wouldn’t have gotten lash extension in the first place because my real lashes suffered for it. But if you’re going to go through with it, do your research. Don’t just go to any random nail salon. Ask around, ask a friend, get recs.
I want a new pair of workout shoes that are still cute for athleisure wear – any good finds recently?
Heather: I just ordered this pair and can’t wait to get them. So cute for the gym or wearing out and about. I’ve had my eye on this pair for about 6 months but not ready to pull the trigger cuz #pricetag. If you’re a runner, these are gorgeous for spring (love anything with a rose gold detail). But if you want good ol fashion black and white, I’d go with these.
Alix: I’m obsessed with these Nike’s right now, these are super cute and great price point, and these are on my wish list!
I’m looking for a new handbag for spring – something under $350. Any good finds?
If you want something for everyday use, this satchel is stunning and this option is so classic and perfect for spring. Give me all the blush tones. If you want something fun and flirty for vacation, I’ve had my eye on this guy and this round little dream for a while now.. I just need to book my trip 😉
What probiotic and multivitamins do you take every day?
Alix: I don’t take a daily multivitamin because I feel like I get a good variety and adequate nutrition through food on a consistent basis. I take this probiotic that I’m really liking right now, but kind of want to try this probiotic because I’ve heard it can also help with acne, but I need to do a little more research. I take 6,000 IU Vitamin D daily (this is on the higher side, so consult your doctor about how many IU you should be taking) and I take these Omega 3…Nordic Naturals is my fav brand for Omega 3 and worth the $$. Unless you’re getting in 3 servings of salmon a week take your Omegas 🙂
How do you stay motivated to get up and workout early in the morning?
Alix: The early morning grind is a love/hate relationship. I’ve found that if I don’t get it in first thing in the morning (before Quinn wakes up and my husband leaves for work) it’s really hard to motivate to do later in the day/evening. Heather and I have gotten into a pretty good routine of 5:30 am workouts during the week and it’s SO helpful to have a workout buddy. On those really hard to get out of bed days I’ll treat myself to a Starbucks on the drive home and that is a total motivator for me! I also need a workout plan, so either developing our own HITT routine, taking a barre class, or doing a BBG workout makes it more fun. There is nothing better than having your workout done and coffee in hand by 6:30 am and knowing you can handle whatever the day brings your way! It truly puts me in a better mood and helps me manage anxiety.
Heather: Basically same same as Alix 😉 I have to get my workouts done in the morning otherwise I’m a raging B the rest of the day.. ask my husband. It’s just something I’ve come to learn about myself lol. Alix and I typically text on Sunday nights about the week ahead and when we can squeeze our workouts in so having a partner keeping you accountable is key for me. And a plan- I am so type A so having a plan for the week feels damn good. Do I sound crazy yet?
What is your everyday makeup routine?
Heather: I wear very minimal makeup during the day but definitely put a little on so I don’t scare the moms at Jackson’s school. I’ve come to love this primer that I told you about in my skincare post.. it’s so moisturizing and wakes me up first thing in the morning. Then I apply Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer, fill in my brows with this brow definer, a little mascara and out the door.
Alix: I don’t wear very much makeup during the week. If I have nothing important planned I try to give my skin a break and go makeup free. If I’m feeling fancy I’ll use this tinted sunscreen and I love this drug store find eye concealer. I’ll dust this bronzer and this mascara and call it good!
I’m going on a kid free trip and need a good beach read- any suggestions?
We are so jealous! Definitely check out our Pinterest page here– we’ve pinned some of our fav books. Obsessed with anything Liane Moriarty writes, The Last Mrs. Parrish, Behind Closed Doors, The Couple Next Door, The Secrets You Keep, and It Ends With Us are some current favs.
I have a sweet tooth at night- any healthy options?
Alix: Me too! I have to have something sweet almost every night. Currently, I’m loving my Eating Evolved coconut butter cups for something sweet after dinner. This recipe is to DIE for! I also like making homemade PB cups- try this recipe. I also keep Lara Bites (this flavor) in my freezer and will pop a few of these at night. This guy has a ton of easy and healthy dessert recipes on his blog. These and these are on my list of dessert recipes to try ASAP. If I’m super desperate and I don’t have anything in the house I will stuff 1-2 pitted dates with almond butter and sprinkle sea salt and a few choc chips…usually does the trick!
Heather: I need a bite of chocolate after lunch AND dinner. I have the Lara Bites that Alix mentioned above and these Bark Thins. You can basically get them at any grocery store or Target… oh another excuse to go to Target 😉 Count me in.
Have a great weekend!
