I know you have both done microneedling and was curious what you’re doing it for and if you’ve seen results from it?
Microneedling is the latest trend in this quest to stay youthful. It’s a procedure that uses fine needles to puncture the skin and create a controlled skin injury in order to rejuvenate skin. Microneedling is used to treat and improve conditions like acne scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, loose skin, skin texture, pore size, brown spots, stretch marks, and pigment issues. During the procedure, a topical anesthetic is applied and then a penlike tool called a derma roller is used to insert tiny stainless steel needles into the skin to cause microinjuries or punctures. The idea is that the damage caused by the needles encourages your body to send healing agents (elastin and collagen) to the cuts to repair them.
Heather: I am specifically doing microneedling to improve my skin texture and shrink my pores but I am also doing it over my eyebrows to prep them for my second round of microblading (aka semi-permanent eyebrow tattoo since I overplucked in high school). I have done two rounds of miconeedling and do it every 4 weeks. I have one more session and then I’ll continue with hydrafacials/peels to keep my skin looking right and tight.
Alix: I’ve done 2 treatments so far and my third (and final for a while) treatment at the end of the month. I’m doing it to help with skin texture and tone as well and for my acne scars. It’s recommended that you’re also doing regular facials in between treatments. I think it seems like an intimidating treatment as first, but it’s really not I promise. You look like you got a bad sun burn on your face the first day, but that calms down. It’s a little itchy and flakey for 3-5 days then you’re good. I got a very exfoliating facial a week after the treatment and feel like my skin is glowing and tight.
The one beauty product you bought from the Nordstrom sale that you can’t live without – go!
Heather: Just one.. that’s cruel… ok… I think it has to be the lash serum! I use it every night before bed and I credit NeuLash for getting my lashes back in shape after having extensions #neveragain! I went from NUBS to fuller, darker lashes in a matter of weeks. $100 off the regular price is a steal too!
Alix: Last year my beauty splurge was the T3 straightener and love it, so this year I had my eye on the curling iron. Heather got it last year during the sale and said it was worth the splurge and I agree.
I want a new personalized phone case and see them all over Instagram but don’t know where to start. What are your favorites?
So many cute ones but my two favorite websites to purchase personalized phone cases from are: The Daily Edited and Bauble Bar. This one by Bauble bar is $78 and I love the leopard detail. Love the pink and orange detail on this one for summer too! The Daily Edited version is a bit more refined and classic (and a touch more expensive) when I am feeling more conservative but you can personalize it however you want.. get creative with colors and fonts! Love this one and this one the most!
I saw your stories about how to purchase items through your blog/LiketoKnowIt account but can you remind me what to do again?
Yes! We were surprised how many of you didn’t realize how to shop through us so let us help! Let’s say you go to our blog and read a post about the Nordstrom Sale. If you click on any of the links or images that we talk about, it will take you to Nordstrom’s website. From there, you can login to your Nordy account and shop away.. it doesn’t matter if you don’t actually purchase the item we were talking about in our blog post. As long as you shop from any link we post and purchase something from that vendor (in this case: Nordstrom), we will get a tiny kickback. This is how bloggers make money! I plan to do an entire post about how a blog/influencer makes money because it’s the #1 question I get asked when people ask me how the blog is going! So stay tuned.. and as always, THANK YOU for continuing to support us!
Can I get your thoughts on microgreens? Yay or nay health benefits?
Yay! First of all, if you don’t know what microgreens are they are young seedlings of edible vegetables and herbs that are harvested less than 14 days after germination. You can buy at most grocery stores near the bagged salad/lettuce. Trader Joe’s even sells them!
I’m into microgreens because they are a more concentrated source of nutrients and antioxidants compared to more mature vegetables and herbs. You can easily add them to salads, bowls, or use as a garnish on soup or toast. The shelf life on microgreens is short, so when you buy them have a plan and use ASAP. I’ve had to throw them out too many times and it makes me sad because they are a little $$.
I drink Natural Calm and wondering what your thought are on the different forms of magnesium. I’ve read not all forms are healthy?
Good question- there are several different forms of magnesium. The original CALM is a formulation of magnesium citrate and carbonate. Mag citrate does have more of a laxative effect and can be used to treat constipation. Mag carbonate is an absorbable form once it’s ingested. So this combination of magnesium is helpful if you don’t get enough magnesium in your diet for muscle and nerve function, etc.
There is a newer product they came out with that contains magnesiums glycinate (instead of citrate) which helps promote more restful sleep. I plan to try this product next!
You’ve recommend bee pollen as a good addition to smoothies and I bought it, but can’t remember why you said it’s good for us? Also what are your 3 favorite smoothie additions?
Yes, I love adding bee pollen to my smoothies because it’s SUPER nutritious. Bee pollen contains vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, fats, and protein. It has around 40 calories, 7g of carbs, and 1g of fiber. Plus, bee pollen can have over two grams of protein per tablespoon. It’s also touted for being antifungal, antimicrobial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory. If you’re pregnant or nursing talk to your doctor before using.
This is a hard one to answer, but I always add protein powder, ground flax or acacia fiber for fiber, and a fat like MCT oil.
Thanks for sending in your questions this week. Keep them coming via DM and by emailing us at champagnetheory@gmail.com.
