With “back to school” on the horizon, I’m curious what you wear to drop off/pick up and school volunteering. I’m always in athleisure and feel like I need to kick it up a notch.. nothing over the top but still put together.. you know what I mean?!
Do we ever. We are ALWAYS in athleisure wear.. Lulu pants, joggers, sneakers and a hoodie. While there’s nothing wrong with this, I (Heather) find myself wanting to “get dressed” more. And Alix and I both typically get our workouts done in the morning so I feel like I should put a little more effort into getting dressed for drop off + still be comfortable during the day! Comfort is key here so think a pair of jeans (I think distressed are still 100% ok for drop off but maybe keep it clean for volunteering), a tailored tee or button down, cardigan and slides.
Ok – tell us the truth. How did you like the Billie razor? Everyone’s been promoting it and I know you didn’t get paid to use it so let’s hear your honest opinion!
I was so intrigued by the hype behind the Billie razor and love trying new products like this, so I signed up! The price point is actually cheaper than if you buy razors in store. You fill out a little profile and they estimate how frequently you need refill deliveries (all shipping is free). You also get to pick out what color razor you want (I went with dream pop obviously) and it comes with a sleek holder that sticks to your shower. You have the option to add on shave cream or body lotion, but I did not. The razor has a charcoal shave soap attached to it, so you don’t even really need shaving cream. I’m seriously into it..I’m getting such a smooth even shave with this razor and no nicks (which I’m prone to getting because I shave fast). Anyways, #notsponsored and I’m hooked for reals.
Help! I need a good eyebrow/waxing place in Seattle. I don’t want pencil thin brows. Do you have any suggestions!
I (Alix) have been seeing my girl Elana since i moved to Seattle almost 3 years ago. She is now at her own spot called The Tangerine Spa in Wallingford. She does all my waxing and also does amazing facials. It’s literally like a massage and facial in one and I leave SO relaxed. She’s fantastic I can’t say enough nice things about her. Tell her Alix sent you 😉
I saw you’re fighting a cold and taking elderberry gummies. What does it help with?
Elderberry supplements claim to help fight cold and flu symptoms and decrease duration of a cold and there is promising research to support these claims. Elderberry is also high in antioxidants and supports the immune system. It comes in several different forms like lozenges, syrup, juice, and gummies. We prefers the gummies for ourselves and our kiddos and like this and this brand.
Good luck with your half marathon this weekend! I know you were looking for week-of prep tips. Did you get any and can you share what you’re doing to get in the zone (I am doing a half in Oct)!?!
The best tip I got last year was to take Immodium before the race lol! I get runners tummy and this really helped! Other tips: use a body glide to prevent chaffing, pace yourself well in the beginning when your nerves are flowing, don’t wear or eat anything new/different on race day, foam roll and stretch daily while training (recovery is so important!), and most importantly have fun and enjoy the surroundings!
Heather: I loved your fall wish list post and really want an Anine Bing tee or sweatshirt too.. worth the splurge or just a trend that we’ll see fade away?
I mean, it wouldn’t be on my wish list if I didn’t think it was worth it 😉 So yes, I think they are.. the material is SO soft and I love a graphic tee.. always have! It’s just my style and not for everyone but I feel like you can pair the tee with shorts, jeans, even a skirt to edge it up! I will be pulling the trigger.. just a matter of when!
Can you link your personalized dog tag necklace and give me details on how long it took to receive and what font you used? Thanks!
Here is the link to my necklace.. I absolutely love it and haven’t taken it off since I got it! It’s $48 and it arrived within 7-10 business days of purchase.. SO FAST for something that’s personalized. I got all lower case letters of my boys’ names in font F111. You could do coordinates, a date, names, anything that’s close to your heart.
Heather: You posted a few weeks ago that you had all three of your kids down by 7 and were watching your shows and I was so envious. How do you juggle getting three kids to bed at the same time? I need tips because the bedtime struggle is REAL!
This is going to be a long answer. Don’t get it twisted: my bedtime struggle bus is also real MANY days out of the week. Sometimes I get lucky and they go down without any issues but not always. And, the baby goes to bed about 30 minutes before the other two (around 6:30-6:45 pm) so I am really only putting two to bed at the same time. This routine is assuming I am doing this alone if my husband is traveling for work (at least twice a week):
I do most of the baby’s bedtime routine downstairs.. he has his dinner and bottle, plays, we read and then when he’s ready for bed I take him upstairs, change him and put him down. It takes 2 minutes and he’s out. So yeah, he’s the easy one. While I’m upstairs, my older boys are typically finishing up dinner, playing or having “quiet time” by watching a show. They’re old enough that I don’t have to worry about them getting into too much mischief in the two minutes I’m upstairs with the little one.
When it comes to the big boy’s bedtime routine, I give them 10 and 5 minute warnings so they can wrap their heads around the fact that play time is coming to an end. They don’t do well with an abrupt “BED TIME!” Around 7 I give them their warning and we are upstairs by 7:30. Jackson is a dream and is typically ready for bed, goes upstairs, goes potty, brushes his teeth and gets into his jammies without a fight. Cammy is typically lolly gagging downstairs shouting “NO NIGHT NIGHT!!!!” while I get Jackson situated. I can get Jackson all jammied up and by this time, Cam has made his way (reluctantly) up the stairs. Jackson lays in bed while I get Cam in his jammies and teeth brushed and then we all crawl into Jackson’s bed together and read. One story + a few wrestling matches and I call it. I am loving but stern that the day is over and it’s time to rest their little eyes. Once Cam sees that Jackson is in bed, he goes to his room without a fight. Sometimes he asks for a “baba” and I’ll give him water but that’s the only thing I’ll give in to (I mean, we DID just have a wrestling match!).
Jackson falls asleep instantly and Cam is not far behind but is definitely my worst sleeper. He doesn’t scream or cry.. just plays and talks to himself before falling asleep which I have no issue with. We all don’t just lay down our heads and fall asleep.. we’re not all wired that way. I certainly am not.. so I am not forcing that on Cam. He goes to sleep when he’s ready 🙂 I could probably write an entire blog post on creating routines and what I’ve done to get to this place but not sure people really care haha! Overall, my kids just feed off of each other and do what the other is doing so bed time has become easier and easier. For reference, they sleep from about 7:30-7:45 pm to 7 am.
Thanks for all of your DM’s and questions this week! Seriously so much fun engaging with you! And lastly, thank you for all of your words of encouragement as we go into race day tomorrow.. we are SO pumped (to be finished and chug a bottle of champagne)!!
xx, A&H

Heather do your older boys nap still?
admin says
My oldest stopped napping at age 3 on the dot and my middle is 2.5 and has just recently stopped napping. I didn’t want to push it during the summer months while my oldest was also home. They play so well together in the afternoons and it’s better for them to have a playmate instead of one napping and one not. Also my middle wasn’t falling asleep until after 8 pm every night when he did nap and now he crashes hard at 7 pm every night!
