I’m moving to Oregon in a few months and being a California girl, I have no clue which winter jacket and boots I should get! Advice please!
From one California girl to another, I GET THIS! Our bones just run cold the second it dips below 50 so it’s time to get prepared since it sounds like you’re moving in the dead of winter #godbless. Think North Face, Lululemon, Canada Goose if you got the cash, and Patagonia. While style is important, being warm takes priority. Here’s some options I would invest in:
Alix – what is the wake clock you use for Quinn and does it work?!
We use this wake clock and I have also heard good things about the Hatch Baby Quinn is still in her crib, but the goal was for her to not cry or call for us until her clock was green. A toddler sleep expert I follow on Instagram recommended a wake clock and stay in bed chart for toddlers waking early or in the middle of the night. I would say the clock works 50% of the time, but I’m hoping since we introduced it early when we transition her to a big girl bed it will help her stay put in her room until the clock turns green. Wishful thinking?!
What are your favorite Lululemon joggers?
I have three favorites depending on what you’re looking for. The Align joggers are my favorite for running errands and travel and I sized up so they are a little looser fitting. If you want something thicker and warmer then the Warm Down joggers are the way to go. Heather has these and loves! If you want joggers you can dress-up a little then go for the On the Fly joggers.
I need new makeup brushes and I’m so clueless where to even start. Bonus points if you can link a good brush shampoo and explain how you clean your brushes. Thanks!
Ok, if you are just starting out with brushes then I recommend going to Sephora and getting a sales associate to help you with picking out a set. For a beginner, you need a foundation brush (and beauty blender), blush and bronzer brushes and eye brushes. Something like this set. Nothing over the top. I purchased this set off Amazon and really love them.. inexpensive and over 7,000 positive reviews. But for a beginner who doesn’t wear a ton of makeup, the number of brushes might overwhelm you. But at $10, just use the ones you know! 😉
As for cleaning your brushes, this makeup brush cleaner mat for your sink is amazing! It suctions to your sink to make it really easy to clean your brushes with the water running. I use this makeup cleaner. I clean my brushes once a week and just spray the cleaner and scrub the shit out of them on the suction mat! Let them sit out on a clean towel for drying and voila!
Alix- why did you tag #guthealth when you posted about your Vital Proteins in your coffee? Does it do something for the gut as well?
Vital Proteins collagen potentially has a lot of health benefits for joints, hair, skin, etc. but also gut health. Vital Proteins website does a great job of explaining the importance of a healthy gut and digestion and foods that contribute to good gut health (including collagen). Read up here.
Heather – I love the Sam Edelman furry winter boots you posted but they are sold out everywhere 🙁 Can you link something similar?
Yes, these ones by Marc Fisher are the CUTEST and I want them but can’t justify another pair when I really only wear my Sam’s a couple months out of the year. Also love these ones by Jeffrey Campbell.
It’s getting cold on my weekend morning runs…any gloves or headwear you recommend to help you stay warm when running outdoors?
Lululemon has a lot of great glove and headwear options to keep you warm. I don’t like bulky gloves when I run, so these ones are perfect. I love these ear warmers that keep your ears and head arm, but doesn’t make you overheat as you get going. If you want something thicker then this one looks great.
Do you have a Trader Joe’s favorites you guys get?
I did a Grocery List post with my Trader Joe staples and I also did a post about Trader Joe’s fall food items. I should probably do an updated grocery list soon! Stay tuned 😉
This year, we’ve decided to get a faux Christmas tree and have no idea where to begin shopping for one. Do you have a real or fake and can you share where you purchased it?!
I (Heather) started getting artificial trees about 4 years ago and have never looked back. I love the smell of a real Christmas tree but with the fire hazard, pine needles all over the place ALL the time, and my kids always wanting to play underneath it I just decided that faux was the way to go. We got ours at our local Home Depot and it’s by Martha Stewart. I’ve seen a lot of trees online but I think it’s always best to look at them in person to get a feel for size and texture. Try Target, West Elm, Pottery Barn, Hobby Lobby and Home Depot to scope them out. If online is your only option, King of Christmas is your safest bet for quality. Their garland, wreaths and trees are seriously TO DIE FOR. When our tree is ready to be replaced, I’ll be getting one of theirs. And remember, even though you’re spending $250-500 on an artificial tree, it will pay for itself in about 2-3 years since you aren’t buying a real one year after year!
Heather – loved your hostess gift guide ideas but can you give some $5, $10 and $20 options? Thanks!
Yes! The coffee mug I posted is under $15 but you’re right, most of those gifts were pretty generous 🙂 I think a pair of Barefoot Dreams socks or Champagne Gummy Bears would be FAB gifts! A girlfriend bought me this mini, sparkly Capri Blue candle as a hostess gift and it still sits on my mantle all year round.
