Alix- have you tried Athletic Greens?
I haven’t tried that one specifically, but I’ve tried other similar green supplements. I think these are a great option to get in all the vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, etc. but they are missing the fiber you get from eating real vegetables. So I think taking these supplements are totally fine if you like them, but for me they don’t replace real veggies in your diet. Ideally, you’re getting all your nutrient needs met via food…food first is the goal. If you know there are gaps in your diet or you will be traveling and won’t have access to you usual foods, then this would be a good supplement to bring with you.
What are your favorite healthy spots to eat with girlfriends in Seattle?
Good question! We love going to brunch at Tallulah’s on Cap Hill, Mr. West Cafe downtown or in U Village, Japonessa for sushi, Shaker and Spear for a girls night out, and Juice Press for smoothies! Homegrown is a great spot for lunch too!
What winter boots do you girls have for the snow? I’m a fair weather California girl moving to Oregon and I need help!
Our favorite and most practical boots for the snow are definitely Sorel’s! Love these and these!
Any good tips on budgeting? Savings planning?
You are asking the WRONG girls 😉 Our husbands would say we should not be giving advice on this topic as much as they beat it into us that we need to be more mindful with spending. But some things we’re trying to cut back on are listed below:
- Skip the daily Starbucks and make your own coffee at home.
- Stop spending money on “trends.” A capsule wardrobe is all you need!
- Cut back on being members at EVERY fitness studio and use ClassPass or work out in our friend’s home gym.
- Make our own Daily Harvest smoothies instead of hitting up the $12 juice bar.
Our husband’s have wanted to even do a guest post on this topic because they are both very savvy with money and savings, but we thought you guys would think it’s boring lol. Let us know if you think it would be interesting 😉
Best under eye concealer for these dark bags caused by threenagers?!
We feel you!!! Oh do we feel you. We have a couple favorites. This one by Laura Mercier is a staple and gets really good reviews and this stick by Hourglass is amazing! This de-puffing eye gel is amazing and Tula carries this under-eye brightening stick that people are obsessed with and we can’t wait to try too!
What kind of juicer do you have? I want to buy one, but I don’t want to spend a lot of $$$.
Heather: I have this Cuisinart that I got as a wedding present 7+ years ago and it’s still in excellent condition. I am sure there are better ones out there now but it works great for us! Not the most awesome thing to clean but I don’t use it every day so it doesn’t bother me!
Alix: I also got my juicer as a wedding present 5+ years ago and still love it! We have an older model similar to this Breville. This Breville Cold Plus Juicer looks amazing, gets great reviews and is on MAJOR sale!
Alix what does the dandelion bitters do? Why do you take it?
Dandelion bitters is a digestive aid and a liver detoxifier. I will usually only remember to take it after a night of wine, but it’s something you can take daily (ideally before meals). It can help you debloat (amen) and might help curb sugar cravings, increase vitamin absorption and balance blood sugar. I should be taking it daily now that I’m writing this out lol!
How do you travel with all of your toiletries and makeup? I need a new system!
I always travel with my makeup in this hard case and while it isn’t the SMALLEST thing on the planet, it keeps everything super organized and safe! It gets MAJOR reviews and under $30. As for my toiletries, I just put everything in clear zip pouches like these from Amazon. And then all of my clothes and accessories go into these compression packing cubes.. total game changer!
Heather- how did you already get Parker using a straw sippy cup? Where did you get that weighted straw cup?
He has been my easiest baby to transition for some reason (I think just by chance). I bought this weighted straw sippy cup at Target and started giving it to him with each of his meals. It took him a few tries but finally figured out how to sip from a straw and loves it. He sucks down a full cup of water now at each meal and in between so I am super happy about it. He officially doesn’t have a Dr. Brown’s bottle anymore and I am SO glad the bottle stage is over. Now, he uses this cup for his milk during the day.
My advice is to not buy too many cups to try and just stick with the 1 or 2 you want your baby to use going forward. He/she will eventually get the concept and start using it.. don’t push it! They do things in their own time 🙂 Like I’ve said before, none of us went to college with a bottle or pacifier in our mouths.. do what works for now!
What is the Thorne supplement you posted about on stories and why are you taking it? Is it for hair loss? Would love a more in depth post about lab work you recommend and what to look for in the results!
First of all please talk to your doctor before starting any new supplements…this is just what is working for me.
I’m almost 3.5 years postpartum and continue to lose my hair in the shower at an alarming rate. Recently I had lab work done and everything came back “fine” according to my PCP. Well, I’ve been studying up more on functional medicine (listening to a lot of Dr. Will Cole podcasts) and compared my lab results to functional medicine standards and my free T4 was low. I reviewed with my acupuncturist and she recommended I take this Thorne thyroid supplement (this brand is really legit BTW). I’ve been taking it for about 2 months now and I upped my Vital Proteins to 2 scoops/day in my coffee (I had only been doing one) and I notice a significant decrease in my hair loss.
Thanks so much for all of your engagement and interaction this week! We love hearing from you and all of your tips and tricks.
xx, H&A
