Are you guys taking any extra precautions to keep you and your kids healthy during this crazy time?
Same with everyone right now our schools are closed and our kids are home. We aren’t doing anything extra crazy but making sure the kids are washing their hands frequently and taking baths after the park. Yes, we are still taking our kids to the park to run around because we would all be going crazy if we didn’t let them get their energy out and we need to take advantage of actual sunny days that are happening right now in Seattle! Quinn continues to take the same vitamins she has always taken which is this multivitamin and these elderberry gummies. I’m making sure she’s staying hydrated and getting good sleep as always.
How is homeschooling going and are there any activities you’ve come across that your kids really gravitate toward?
If by homeschooling you mean about an hour or two of concentrated work throughout the entire day, then it’s going great lol. Luckily for us, we have young kids who aren’t being required to complete full blown schoolwork.. we’re just supposed to keep engaging with them, teaching new concepts, but mostly we are spending the days outside in the 50-60 degree sunshine exploring the world around us. I (Heather) ordered some Kindergarten readiness workbooks off of Amazon and have Jackson do a few lessons a day. We read a ton, search his Hidden Picture books, do crafts, take lots of walks, and meet up with only a couple friends at a time (and at a safe distance) to get some socialization in.
How can I stay on track with workouts now that the gyms and studios are all closed.. what apps do you use?! I see some studios doing at home workouts and being able to login virtually.. any luck with these?
We feel you! It’s easy to get down with all workout studios being closed and motivation might be feeling low right now. So many studios are trying their best to have live classes streaming either on Instagram or Zoom. I know our local Pure Barre, Barre 3 and Modo Yoga have all started this and people are loving it!
I’m SO thankful I got my Peloton just in time, so I have been doing cycle classes 2-3 x week right now for cardio. I also love the SWEAT app for strength training and do their BBG 1.0 program right now. I also took one of their FIERCE classes and liked it! (a follower said the FIERCE tabata classes are great) They’ve changed a lot of their classes so they involve very minimal (if any) equipment so you can do it all at home. The Peloton app also has a lot of great strength training, running, and yoga classes as well.
I am also trying to go on a lot of walks around the neighborhood for exercise. We’ve been doing on daily 3+ mile walk either in the morning when we need to get out of the house or in the afternoon for quiet time 😉
Rachael Good Eats has been posting a lot of great at home workouts on her Instagram page. Jade at The Sweat Studios is also doing awesome online classes.
Staying active during this time is necessary for your mood, anxiety, and immunity!
So now that we’re all quarantined, I need some cute sweats/jogger sets/athleisure to wear around the house.. I can’t stand being in PJ’s anymore!
We hear you! Here are some really cute sets we’ve got our eyes on!
I need a new Podcast and Series to watch.. you polled on Instagram last week so what were the results?
I forgot to save all of the responses but the number one recommendations were The Strangers, Succession, The Marvelous Ms. Maisel, and just recently Little Fires Everywhere with Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington! My husband convinced me to start The Sopranos because I never watched it before and we’re on season 1 and it’s SO good.. so we’ll stick to that for the next 10 years lol.
Heather – what hair products do you use to get your wavy curls?
I currently wash my hair with Kristin Ess purple shampoo/conditioner from the drug store (but I only use it 2x a week otherwise it will dull my blonde too much). Then I put Moroccan Oil on the ends of my damp hair once I get out of the shower. After I blow dry with my Revlon Hair Dryer, I section my hair off with my Dry Bar Hair Clips and star curling with the T3 1.5 inch curling iron (currently on sale and worth the price). I curl AWAY from my face and leave about an inch of hair out from the curling iron at the bottom to give the perfect wave. I curl section by section and leave it to set until the very end when I brush it out and finish with Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray (smells like HEAVEN ON EARTH).
I want a new pair of white sneakers for spring.. any cute ones you’ve seen?
Yes! White sneaks for spring are so on trend. I linked some favorites below!
I’m finding that I’m eating more right now because I’m bored, anxious, and stuck at home. Any tips to help me stay on track with my eating while being stuck at home?
If you’re finding yourself eating more than normal, eating past the point of fullness more often, or eating to cope with stress or anxiety just know this is a very normal response! Try to be compassionate to yourself right now in this crazy time. I like this post by a fellow RD on how to challenge the internal food police.
I also think it’s helpful to stick to somewhat of a schedule and routine right now. Continue to eat at normal times throughout the day and aim to have balanced meals so you don’t end up mindlessly snacking all day. Since many people are working from home you now how easier access to food then you probably did in an office setting. Have healthy and easily assessable snacks on hand like pre-cut veggies, hard boil eggs, nuts, fruit, yogurt, etc. so you’re not grabbing handfuls of the kids goldfish.
Continue taking care of yourself with getting good sleep, drinking plenty of water, and exercising daily to keep you feeling good and wanting to make good food choices.
Thanks for your questions this week.. they are definitely evolving as we navigate COVID-19 as you can see! It doesn’t feel right talking all things fashion and beauty right now but we will definitely continue to weave those topics in as we could all use some self care right now <3
