What’s the difference between almond milk on the shelf and those in the fridge? I usually just get refrigerated ones.
The difference is packaging. Shelf-stable cartons use Tetra Pak packaging technology that keep out light and air, locking in nutrients. There is not usually a difference in the ingredients or nutritional value. It’s important to read the ingredients which ever you prefer and be sure there isn’t a bunch of extra additives in it (esp. added sugar).
Homemade almond milk is soooo much more nutritious than either, so if you have some extra time try my homemade almond milk recipe 😉
Heather can you link your “no drill” baby gates?
We’ve had the same gate for 5 years (since Jackson was a baby) and have used it over and over again! Here is our favorite gate.
Can you share your teeth whitening routine and link the coffee straws you use to keep your teeth white?
We both use the Sensitive Line from Smile Brilliant and I dedicated an entire post to it!
Our favorite coffee straws can be found on Amazon and we have the PINK ONES! It comes with two straws to fit a short or tall coffee mug and after using expensive whitening systems, you want to ensure you’re keeping those teeth white white white.
Can you link some good oversized t-shirts? I’m looking for an oversized shirts to wear over leggings.
Finding the perfect oversized tee is a struggle.. you don’t want it to be too big and sloppy but something still comfortable. These are the ones I’ve found that are worthy:
Looking for recommendations on a good lightweight moisturizer with spf to wear under makeup this summer? Bonus if it’s not super expensive. Thank you!
Kiehl’s has this one and it’s meant for all skin types. Kiehl’s is just tried and true. This sunscreen by Shiseido is not necessarily branded as a moisturizer but it leaves your skin feeling hydrated but also protected. I have used this one by PCA Skin and while it’s pricier, it’s some GOOD stuff. And this Elta MD sunscreen has a cult following.
Since I’m working from home now I don’t need to wear a bra- score! Can you link a few cute and comfortable bralettes I could wear around the house?
We love this | this | this | this one!
Do you still order Daily Harvest bowls and smoothies and if so, what are your current favorites? Also, can you remind me what you add to the smoothies to make it more of a meal replacement?
I’m getting them delivered about once every 4-5 weeks. I’m not ordering the bowls or lattes anymore because I just wasn’t using them. I did a post about my favorite DH smoothies and a post about how to build the perfect smoothie. If you’re going to the grocery store less right now DH can be a great option to have some healthier meals options in the freezer. You can use my link to get $25 off you first box!
Do you have any recommendation for a good t-shirt bra? I need something a little more supportive than a bralette to wear around the house. Thanks!
I (Alix) don’t really wear regular bras. I don’t need a lot of support and usually just stick to bralettes like we linked in question #6 above. I’ve worn this bra in the past and liked it. This bra gets great reviews and is on sale and this Skims bra also gets great reviews. I also love Natori bras and wore them throughout my pregnancy.
I’m looking for new athletic socks for my husband. We wear white ankle socks right now and they are terrible. Can you link some men’s no show socks and also maybe some black ankle socks?
We both love the Belaga socks and ran our half marathons in them, so we would recommend these men’s socks for your husband. Bomba is also a great brand and they make a few men style socks like these no show socks and regular ankle socks…both in black and grey 😉 These men’s running no show socks are also cute.
Have you ever done a cleanse (Whole 30, juice cleanse, intermittent fasting) and if so, which one? If not, would you ever consider it? Why or why not?
I (Alix) have not. I’m very against juice cleanses and think they are ridiculous and do not give your body essential macronutrients and can often be loaded with sugar and lacking fiber. I’ve also done some research into IF (intermittent fasting) and have learned that it is not ideal for women’s hormones (esp. for fertility). I also worry that IF can lead to feeling of deprivation and result in a binge, but I’ve also heard a lot of success stories on it and think there is some science to back up the validity of IF. I think this article does a great job explaining IF for newbies. I think IF can really help simplify eating for people because of the limited eating window. You can really focus on getting in 2-3 balanced nutritious meals. I think it’s a nice option especially for people who have more sedentary lifestyles (ex. 9-5 desk jobs).
I think it’s best to experiment and see how your body reacts to IF and I would not recommend a window greater than a 14-16 hour fast. I’ve never done Whole 30, but I know the rest of the world has. It’s obviously VERY restrictive and the goal is a 30 day reset and then slowly add back foods and see how you feel/tolerate. Most people use Whole 30 as a diet and then go right back to their old ways of eating immediately and regain the weight, so for that reason I don’t think it really teaches people how to properly feed their body. I would be open to experimenting with Whole 30 but wine would be hard to give up for 30 days 😉 Definitely not something I would do during #quarantinelife.
