I hosted a girls brunch a few weeks ago and went back and forth with menu ideas. I wanted to keep it simple and avoid being in a hot kitchen prepping all morning, so I decided on an avocado toast bar. I figured this would be a fun and interactive menu that the girls could tailor to their own preferences. It took a little bit of prep to get everything sliced and ready to go, but I was able to do some of that the night before to make the morning less stressful.
Me hosting an avocado toast brunch is a little ironic seeing as about 6 months ago I basically cut off my ring finger trying to pit an avocado. A slight over exaggeration, but it was so bad I needed surgery to repair nerve damage (sorry Andi Dorfman I started this trend). So let’s just say I left all the avocado slicing to my husband 🙂
Last minute I bought bagels and cream cheese just in case there was anyone who wasn’t feeling the avocado toast (everyone went for the avocado toast, so I would skip this next time). I also served a fruit platter to provide more food options and balance out the meal.
The brunch started at 10am, so I had a pot of coffee ready to go when people arrived which was greatly appreciated…most people opted for a cup of coffee while socializing and waiting for everyone to arrive. I had Vital Proteins out for people to add to their coffee and my favorite dairy free creamer.
Lastly, brunch isn’t complete without bubbles right 😉 I’m a fan of a splash of fresh grapefruit juice in my morning champs, so passed on also servings OJ.
I had a loaf of local and fresh sourdough bread…I think this is the best option for avocado toast. Here are the toppings I laid out, but don’t be limited by list list!
- Avocado (duh! I figured about 1 avocado per person)
- Tomato slices
- Cucumber slices
- Microgreens
- Sliced hard boiled egg
- Bacon bits
- Strawberries
- Blueberries
- Crushed pistachios
- “Everything But The Bagel” Trader Joe’s seasoning
- Maldon sea salt flakes
- Chia seeds
- Hemp seeds
Seeing the different toast creations was a lot of fun and made for fun conversation. I joked that we were going to have a competition to see who could make the prettiest avocado toast and they would make the blog. Well, I must have had too many sips of champagne because I forgot to even take one picture of the final product! So I’ll leave you with a picture of what else…champagne 😉
