My approach to skincare has evolved over the years and it has taken me a long time to find what works and what doesn’t. A few years ago, I knew I wanted to get rid of my sun damage (recovering tan-aholic and California girl) but didn’t know where to start. So many med spas/estheticians don’t actually take the time to diagnose actual issues and just perform services that you book online. I had no clue where to start and would just book treatments blindly. It’s so important to find a Master Esthetician who is trained and qualified to perform these treatments but then put a proper plan in place to achieve results. And even with things like lasers and Botox, they mean absolutely nothing if you aren’t doing a multitude of other things at home.
Here’s what has worked for me recently and how I plan to keep my skin healthy, calm and clear as we head into the new year.
Skincare
What you do 99% of the time is actually what matters more than the occasional treatment. And while I think “medical grade” skincare is scientifically proven and effective, I also love adding in drugstore/Sephora products as well.
Sun Protection
Sunscreen even in the winter, gloomy, rainy months. No exceptions. None of it matters unless you wear SPF. The only magic potion/youth in a bottle is sunscreen. Face, neck, chest and tops of hands. Daily.
Red Light Therapy
I am trying to get better about this habit and doing it 20 minutes a day. I like to habit stack this while doing other chores around the house or just taking a beat before school pick up and sitting with my red light mask on. Consistency is absolutely key with this and it helps with fine lines and wrinkles.
Treatments
I am no expert when it comes to treatments and always listen to my esthetician when she tells me what I need so please find someone qualified to give you advice. I have done BBL laser (sun damage), CO2 laser (tone, texture, tightening), microneedling (collagen production, firming), and Botox (wrinkles). I’ve had some filler in my temples as I was witnessing some hollowing. I will continue with some BBL treatments as it’s always a work in progress erasing sun damage and then I want to try microneedling with PDGF. Will document and keep you posted!
Maintenance Facials
I need to get better about monthly hydrafacials that are strictly for hydration and exfoliating my skin. Getting dead skin off your face is so important if you want your skincare to actually work.
Lifestyle
None of the skincare or treatments or injections matter if you aren’t getting ample sleep, hydration, and movement. I prioritize reading before bed, getting at least 8 hours of sleep a night, moving my body in ways that fuel me daily, and drink a ton of water. And I think actually enjoying life also helps us look and feel our best!
