During the summer, especially when traveling, my skincare routine eases up quite a bit and I really listen to what my skin needs. I still incorporate my medical grade products for an effective regimen but it feels a little lighter than my fall and winter skincare needs. Here is everything I’ve packed for our Italian vacation to keep my skin moisturized and healthy:
I’ve been using this cleanser for years now and it’s my absolute favorite. I rarely wear makeup in the summer so I don’t feel the need to double cleanse and this takes the day off without stripping my face of all its natural oils or make me feel dry. It’s subtle and effective.
An antioxidant, specifically vitamin c, to protect your skin from the harsh elements is critical, especially in summer. Never ever skip this step.
I typically run dry and need this extra layer before my SPF to really hydrate my skin although some of you could skip this entirely and go straight to SPF. However, this moisturizer has captured my heart and I want to bathe my entire body in it. It’s buttery, creamy, all the adjectives that make you feel like you dunked your head in a vat of lotion.

Another step you can’t skip ever. Not in summer. Not in winter. And then you must reapply again and again. I enjoy a tinted version most months as I don’t tan my face and I like a little color on my cheeks but non-tinted versions work, too especially if applying makeup on top (which I typically don’t).
At night, I incorporate my retinol (I use a rx Tretinoin but retinol in its highest form of 1.0 is very effective) every other day as I am out in the sun and daily exposure makes me a little more prone to redness and sensitivity. In the fall and winter, I never skip a night of retinol.
I’d love to hear what products you use during the summer for a healthy glow! Leave a comment 🙂

*I try to buy the majority of my products through my esthetician at Sapien Skin (and you can, too!). They are women owned/run and I want to support them over big box companies and encourage you to purchase your products through someone you trust. Of course that can’t always be the case for our followers and you need to purchase from a larger company and I am so appreciative when you use our links, which directly supports us and our blog.
