It’s no secret that I love bringing my new mom friends yummy food and making sure they are well fed! These women just spent 9+ months growing a tiny human inside them and are now recovering from probably the most physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausting event that’s ever happened to them…labor and delivery! How ever that baby made it’s entrance into the world that mama needs to rest and recover and postpartum nutrition is key!
Postpartum nutrition is a crucial part of healing and if mama is breastfeeding, it can directly affect the quality and supply of breast milk. Consuming a nutrient dense diet will enrich breastmilk milk with the nutrients necessary to help baby’s brain and body grow and develop. So, if you’re wondering what kinds of meals and/or snacks to bring a new mom here are some of my favorites! Also don’t forget the bottle of bubbles 😉
Breakfast/Snack Recipes
Lactation Granola My favorite lactation granola!
Lactation Cookies I typically roll the dough into balls and place in a large ziplock freezer bag with baking instructions. Then mamas can bake off 1-2 cookies as needed.
Lactation Bars I will be trying these on Heather when Master P decides to make his grand entrance.
Raw Oatmeal Recipe with Raspberry Chia Jam I made this for my sister and sister-in-law when they were in the trenches with a newborn and it was a hit! It takes a little bit of prep because you have to presoak the cashews and oats, but they will love you forever if you make it for them. PROTIP: double the recipe so you have some for yourself 😉
No-Bake Lactation Bites These are a great alternative to bars. So nice for a new mom to have them on hand for a quick and nutritious snack.
Goji Berry & Oat Muffins These muffins are so dang good and dense. Encourage mom to top them with almond butter or greek yogurt for a delicious and nutritious breakfast or snack.
Chia Seed Pudding easy breakfast or snack option and can be topped with granola and/or fruit. It’s so easy to make, but a new mom doesn’t have time to make it herself and will be so grateful you made it for her 😉
Daily Harvest Smoothies These are a life saver for new moms for an easy breakfast or snack option. I love sending a gift card so they can pick of which smoothies they want delivered. So easy and thoughtful!
Dinner Recipes
Stuffed Shells This is my go to dinner to drop off. Don’t bake it off…leave instructions for the family so they can bake it off when they are ready to eat. Add a side salad, garlic bread/baguette, and dessert and it’s the perfect meal for mom and her fam.
Enchiladas This is my go-to enchilada recipe (IMO don’t use low carb tortillas- gross!) or this recipe looks great too.
Soup Someone made this soup for my sister when I was staying with her a few weeks after she had her baby and it was SO good. They also dropped off a baguette with it and it was the perfect meal!
Pasta (your choice) and meatballs Bring your friend their favorite kind of pasta and these hearty meatballs- yum! Pair with a side salad, baguette, dessert and done and done!
You can also get your friend a gift card for UberEats or Postmates so they can have food delivered. Meal delivery services like Blue Apron or Hello Fresh are not ideal for a new mom IMO unless their is family around that is wanting to cook. These meals usually take 30+ minutes to prepare and can be a pain in the butt…no new mom has time for that.
I would love to hear what you guys enjoyed getting delivered from friends and family postpartum? What are your fave go-to recipes you bring your loved ones when they welcome a new babe?
xx,
Alix
