While I don’t have a crystal ball, I think it’s fun to try and predict the next wave of heath trends. There are health trends like intermittent fasting, keto/low carb, plant-based eating, etc. that I don’t think are going anywhere. However, as COVID precautions continue, I think there will continue to be some shifts in the wellness industry to support the pandemic-triggered changes we have all experienced.
Immune Health
I feel that people are taking their physical health much more seriously these days. People are doing whatever they can to stay healthy and I think that awareness will continue into 2022. I wrote a post just last week sharing my tips to boost immune health. I like to focus on the basics always….eating well, staying hydrated, movement, and quality sleep!
At Home Fitness
I think people have really enjoyed the convenience of working out at home and have invested a lot of $$ into gym equipment over the past 2 years. I think people have realized how much time and money is saved working out at home, but I know there are others who enjoy the in studio experience and motivation of taking group classes. I think there will continue to be new fitness trends geared towards exercise at home.
Low Intensity Workouts
I wrote a post a while ago about cortisol conscious workouts and think this will become more of a hot trend in 2022. I think, overall, people are tired and feeling burned out from the pandemic and are leaning into more gentle ways to move their bodies. Pushing ourselves to do only high intensity workouts right now may not feel good and I encourage you to listen to your body and have an open mind about what you “count” as exercise. I wrote a post a while back about the benefits of walking and why it’s one of my favorite forms of exercise. Adding in more gentle forms of exercise like yoga, pilates, resistance band training, and walking may be just what you need in 2022!
Mental Health/Eating for Mood
Mental health and emotional wellbeing has been a huge concern during the pandemic. Anxiety and depression are at all time highs for many, so I think here will continue to be a lot of attention around taking care of our mental health in 2022. There are more and more resources available online so those struggling with mental health issues and it feels like there is more normalizing talk about mental health. It’s being talked about more and addressed in our society and I hope that trend only continues and people get the support they need. Food/diet are more intertwined than some might think. I talk a lot about gut health because of how it’s related to mental health and mood. What we eat greatly impacts out gut health which in turn impacts our mental health. I wrote a post here about how to feed a healthy gut …worth a look 😉
Here’s to a happy and healthy 2022!
