As I talked about in last week’s post, getting a good night’s rest is essential for me to be able to wake up early and feel well the next day. I’m a creature of habit and it’s reassuring to me to have my little night time routine that sets me up for a (fingers crossed) good night’s rest.
Before even heading upstairs to start my night routine I like to make sure all the toys are cleaned up and the kitchen is spotless. It honestly stresses me out to go to bed with a dirty kitchen. There is just something about waking up to clean countertops and an empty sink. I also fill up my Hyrdro Flask with ice, water, lemon, and a pinch of salt. You wake up with tasty cold water to drink first thing in the AM. Lastly, before heading up for the night I make my CALM tea to sip while doing my night routine.
Cozy Jammies
Just like the gym… dressing the part and looking cute is key 😉 I love these, these, and these PJ’s for the winter.
Night Time Face Routine
Like Heather has said before it is so nice to lock yourself in the bathroom, light a candle, sip on your CALM tea and have some peace and quiet while doing your night time skin care routine. I use this or this face mask 1-2 x week; usually on Sunday nights.
Here is my current routine:
- If I’m wearing make-up I use this cleansing balm first.
- Then I use this or this face cleanser
- My facialist told me to start using toner again so I use this or this toner only in the PM
- I’m loving these TULA pads and use 1-2 x week
- Then this serum all over my face (it’s $$$ but so good!) and this eye cream
- Then I switch between using this retinol and my Drunk Elephant TLC
- I end with this face cream plus a pump of this and top with this face oil
- And last but not least this lip mask
Sounds like a lot, I know, but really doesn’t take all that long. I’ve been really consistent with my AM and PM skin care routine and feel like it is helping my skin tremendously.
Vitamins/Supplements
I take all my vitamins at night…I usually have a night snack/dessert so it’s not on an empty stomach and I tolerate it well. It’s just what works for me and I always remember to taken them if I do it at night. My vitamins sit on my bathroom counter in a container like this so I don’t miss one.
I wrote out all my vitamins I’m current taking in this post.
I also take melatonin 4-5 nights a week when I feel like I need it. I just buy it from Trader Joe’s.
Essential Oils
I’m obsessed with DoTerra essential oils, so if feeling like I need it I will douse myself in this, this or this oil OR diffuse them in our room.
Books
I love reading before bed and I’m trying to make more of a habit to put my phone away for the night and pick up a book. I like having an actual book in my hand vs. reading on my ipad…anyone else?! A few books I’ve read recently that I would recommend are…A Simple Favor, Crazy Rich Asians, When Life Gives You Lululemons, The Other Women, and Lie to Me.
I’m currently reading The Dinner, and looking forward to starting Educated, The Silent Wife, An American Marriage, and A Place for Us.
Eye mask + Silk pillow case
I feel like this eye mask was a game changer. Having a completely dark room is key in helping you fall and stay asleep. I love this eye mask and pillow case sleep set. It’s great for you hair, face, and sleep!
Sheets
I recently bought flannel sheets for our bed for the cold winter months and it’s a game changer! I SO look forward to getting cozy in these sheets at night, but I still use my silk pillow case 😉
Day Planner
I sleep with my day planner and a pencil next to my bed so if something pops into my bed before bed I can write it down and not keep thinking about it while I’m trying to fall asleep. I’m obsessed with a to-do list so if you’re like me and your mind starts racing at night with everything you need to get done the next day…write it all down and let it go for the night.
I have set the intention of being off all screens like 30-60 minutes before bed because I know it definitely interferes with sleep hormones, but I have not been able to implement that goal yet.
These are the tips and tricks that work for me to ensure a good night’s rest…I’d love to hear what your routine is like! Thanks for following along.
xx,
Alix

Love your blog! One suggestion: can you please post the products rather than just linking? It gets to be a little tiresome and makes the reading flow awkward!

Yep! Good feedback thanks!

Hi! How do you manage when you travel and will you do a post about your planner? What planner do you use and how you use it?

Hey Heather! I don’t travel a lot, but I can definitely write up how I do manage to maintain a night routine while traveling. A planner post is a great idea too!
