Last week I attended Liz Moody’s cookbook tour event here in Seattle and she had Rachael Devaux as a guest. They did a live podcast recording and just chatted about general health and wellness and did a Q & A with the audience. To be honest I went to the event meet Rachael. I love following her on IG and feel like I can relate a lot to her as we are both Registered Dietitians (RD) and very passionate about fitness (we both grew up playing soccer). I’m so inspired how she has grown her business and has not gone the traditional RD route with her career. It’s inspiring as a fellow RD that you can be creative and go in many different directions with this degree.
Sometimes I get frustrated being in this profession because I feel like there are so many “nutritionists” or “healthy living” bloggers out there and Instagram is saturated with a lot of nutrition BS that is not based on actual science. I asked Rachael her thoughts on this and her response was empowering…she said, “Do your own thing and make it your own and it doesn’t matter what others are doing.” It got me thinking…why spend time and energy getting frustrated with what other people are doing and put that energy into what I love doing and sharing on our blog.
Our conversation made me take a step back and really think about how I want to hone in on my beliefs about food and nutrition and what exactly my goals are in what I want to communicate with you guys via the blog and IG. It’s easy to get caught up in all the foods trends and I am guilty of that sometimes because I have food FOMO, get excited, and want to try all the things.
With so many food trends these days I often get asked my thoughts on specific ones from friends, family, and clients. I typically begin my response with do what is truly best for YOUR body. Therefore, just because I’m not a huge fan of intermittent fasting (because I wake up hungry and work out first thing in the morning I could never do it) you might be someone that feels amazing doing it- so rock it!
I’ll review the pros and cons of these trends based on the science, but ultimately I encouraged people to do what makes them feel THEIR best and works for their lifestyle. A crazy juice cleanse probably won’t leave you feeling your best, so let’s try something a bit more realistic and sustainable. If you can find an eating style that you can sustain for the rest of your life then that might be a food fit for you.
For me, when it comes how to ideally nourish your body the words I use the most with clients are balance, variety, and real food. This essentially means eating a balance of macro and micro nutrients at each meal, choose a variety of foods from a variety of food groups daily and choose real (less packaged) as much as possible.
Therefore, you will never see me promoting specific diets because I don’t follow one. I hope to provide you with the knowledge and inspo to achieve balance, variety and real food nourishment in your daily life so you can feel your best!
Of course, if you have any specific question about food, nutrition, trends, etc ask away! If there are topics, blog posts, of real life IG you’re wanting to see let me know…we love getting feedback from you guys.
xx,
Alix

I could cry…. I’m so glad i found your blog! I’ve gone through a lot the last several years with my roller coaster weight/hormones/etc
and my circle of friends I used to surround myself with are hardcore anti this anti that and every week it’s a new detox and cleanse. God forbid you order anything with gluten while you’re out to lunch or you’ll get the stare.
Where I’m going with this is I absolutely believe in health. I love it, am apart of it, but I can get overwhelmed so fast that I find myself completely stepping away and flat discouraged. To see tour blog and see that your not a extremist with a shallow mind makes me so relieved. I was so engaged i even found your grocery list and utilized it yesterday.
Do you take clients?

Hi Devina! You’re seriously so sweet and you don’t know how much that means to hear. I’m so glad you found our blog too! It’s so hard to keep sane outlook on health and nutrition in today’s society and I find myself even getting pulled in different directions and have to remind myself to stay true to my core beliefs about food and nutrition. I don’t have a private practice anymore since we moved to Seattle. I’m always toying with the idea taking clients again…I’ll keep you posted 😉
