Friday is the last day of school for both girls and we are looking forward to a busy, but fun summer. A while ago I put together a list of things I wanted to try to accomplish over the next few months, but most of all I want to be more present with the girls. Just this morning Quinn asked me to play Uno before school. My initial reaction was to say no and I did say no…I had too much to get done before school. However, I ended up pouring a cup of coffee and told her I would love to play one game before I got my day started.
I’ve taken short social media breaks on my personal account in the past, but having to post on the blog has made it challenging to completely cut social media out of my life. While I love the community Heather and I have built over the past 7+ years, I’ve been feeling the need to pull back.
Without going into a lot of detail…I have a lot on my plate right now (I mean don’t we all) and feel like the best choice for myself and my family this summer is to put the phone down and be present. There is no drama, just a break is needed.
This will be my last Wednesday post until the fall, but luckily Heather will hold down the fort and keep you all entertained and stylish this summer 😉 I will also be off stories starting Monday.
Our summer plans include a few camps here and there, but we will mostly either be at the pool, on the boat, or on a soccer field. Here is what is on my summer bucket list in between all of that:
READING BEFORE BED
Currently I get into bed on time, but scroll. By the time I reach for my book I’m too tired.
FARMERS MARKET
We have a cute local farmers market, but also want to explore other towns and what they have going on this summer. The girls love to go and then they have more investment in trying the produce we buy together.
LOCAL FLOWER STANDS
There are the cutest flower stands around town that I love to support. Having pretty bright flowers in the house is such a mood booster too.
EXPLORE
I have a summer bucket list with a friend of all the localish places we want to explore and take the kids to this summer. Ferry rides, day trips, new beaches, hikes, parks, etc. I get so comfortable doing the same things with the kids and I’m forcing myself to explore all this beautiful area has to offer.
SUP yoga/pilates
I have seen these classes advertised in the area and think it would be a blast. I’m sure I’ll fall off a million times, but YOLO!
OUTDOOR MOVIE NIGHTS
My friend has a set up for this in her yard and I can’t wait for summer movie nights outdoors.
SUMMER PRODUCE
I don’t necessarily want to cook more over the summer, but I want to put that summer produce to good use. Either baking or making light fresh meals using lots of fresh herbs and produce. The girls love to help me in the kitchen and usually it just stresses me out, but summer is the perfect time to relax and get them more involved.
HOST BOOK CLUB
I have a few local friends chatting about starting a book club. I have a texting book club with Heather and our other girlfriend (Hi Ash!), but I miss chatting about books IRL. This might not happen until the fall when people are in town more, but I’m adding it to my list now.
Have a great summer and I’ll chat with you all in the fall.
xx, A
