We spent our mid winter break in Sun Valley, ID last week and had the absolute best time. My husband grew up taking family ski trips to Sun Valley, so he was excited to start this tradition with our family. We decided to drive instead of flying because it just seemed easier to be on our own travel schedule, pack as much crap as we needed, and we needed a car when we were there, so it just made the most sense for us.
We had two long travel days in the car (10+ hours), but it honestly was not that bad until the last 2 hours we were all done. On the way there neither girl slept, but luckily they each napped a few hours on the drive home. We rented a condo at the base of the mountain in Ketchum which turned out to be the perfect location. There was a bus that picked up right outside the condo to take you to the base of the mountain and it was walking distance to the little downtown shops and restaurants. There was also a hot tub and heated pool that we used daily after skiing.
Ross and Quinn skied all 6 days and Kinsley and I skied 3 days. On the days Kinsley and I did not ski, we hit the shops. She’s really turned into a good little shopping buddy. We spent one day at the Sun Valley Resort area which had a few cute shops, toy store, and yummy coffee at Konditorei. We spent another day roaming the shops on and around Main Street. A lot of cute boutiques, coffee shops, etc.
I have a friend who moved from Seattle to Sun Valley 6 years ago and I haven’t seen her since, so it was also so much fun to spend time with her and her family while we were there. She was also so helpful giving us all the tips and tricks or where to go.
Our last day there, we let Dad ski Baldy solo for his birthday and we had a girls ski day at Dollar Mountain with my friend and her girls.
My friend also says that SV is even BETTER in the summer and has a ton of pickleball, so we will definitely be back for a summer trip soon!
