Did you take progesterone?
I didn’t take anything besides the supplements recommended by my naturopath, herbs from my acupuncturist, and I do take a thyroid medication prescribed by my naturopath.
Can you share your acupuncturist and naturopath’s name?
My acupuncturist’s info is here and naturopath info is here.
How long were you trying to conceive?
15 months. We were going to keep trying until the end of the year and then move onto a different life plan direction.
How to stay positive? The failed attempts are growing and feeling more discouraged.
It’s really hard and I know some people try for years- I couldn’t imagine the stress and sadness. I would have months when I wouldn’t do all the things because I was feeling burnt out. For example, I tried seed cycling for 1-2 months and while it’s pretty simple to do, it felt like too much on top of all the other things I was doing. I would say to take breaks if you need them, have friends/family/therapist you can vent to, and have a back-up plan.
For us, IVF was not something we were going to do for a variety of reasons (we would have if we didn’t already have Quinn), so we created a plan B scenario where we would get a puppy, travel a lot, and make the best out of only having one child.
What ended up working for you?
Anything in particular to which you attribute getting pregnant?
I’ll answer these two questions together. I honestly have no idea. I think it was a combination of all the things I was doing, and doing them consistently for months. Doing something like acupuncture, decreased alcohol consumption, or supplements, for a few weeks and expecting it to result in a positive pregnancy test isn’t realistic. It takes like 3-4 months for those changes to make an impact on egg quality and the environment inside your body.
Did you give up wine in the 2ww? TTC is tough enough as it is!
I cut back on alcohol in general. I gave it up almost completely for about 2-3 months then started to have a few drinks a week (2-3 max) because I was feeling burnt out. I didn’t stop drinking during specific times during my cycle though.
How are you feeling?
I’m feeling so much better now. My first trimester was rough, but I feel like I’ve really turned a corner the past few weeks. I am feeling a little moody and irritable here and there, but that could just be the winter weather, the pandemic, or all of the above lol!
Did you end up finding out the “why” to explain why this time was harder to get pregnant?
I guess just the fact that it was almost 5 years difference. I was so naive when we tried to get pregnant with Quinn…it happened the first month so I never thought getting pregnant again would be an issue. In hindsight my AMH was probably somewhat low even 5 years ago. When I got my AHM tested in January 2020 it was 0.08 (normal range is 1.0) meaning I was basically peri-menopausal and would likely go through menopause in the next 3-5 years. I was 35 when this test was run…needless to say this was shocking news. They don’t really know why low AMH and infertility are correlated, but they are. My goal through everything I was doing was so improve my egg quality, so the eggs I had left and was releasing were the healthiest they could be.
