While it’s really scary to make this announcement public, but I’m so happy to be able to finally share our exciting news with you all. If you’re new around here I wrote about my struggles to get pregnant with baby #2 here. We had been trying for 15 months to get pregnant, so I was in absolute shock when the pregnancy test was positive! I did get pregnant naturally and I wrote about all the things I was doing to increase my fertility in this post.
Who knows what worked specifically, but I think it was a combination of all the work I was doing and staying very committed to it for months even when I was getting really down about it. Or maybe it was just like everyone kept saying….once you get a puppy you will get pregnant! I found it so annoying when people would tell me that, but it was actually exactly what happened. It was a Monday that we got on the waitlist for a puppy (she comes in January!) and on that Thursday I had a positive pregnancy test!
So, that Thursday I am supposed to meet Heather and the pumpkin patch with the kids. She wants me to take a pregnancy test that day because my period is a few days late, but I just did not want to take another negative test. Heather told me she was going to buy me a test on her way to the pumpkin patch because clearly she has good fertility luck over there 😉 She threw it in my backpack and I considered taking it in the porta potty at the pumpkin patch (in hindsight that would have been a better story), but I didn’t want to be in a bad mood with the kids that day, so I waited. By the time I got home that afternoon I was anxious to take the test. When that extra line showed up on the test right away I was crying and shaking… I was in complete shock!
Since I’m considered a “geriatric pregnancy” at age 36 I got a ton of blood work done at 10 weeks and was able to find out the gender and that the baby was so far healthy! Such a relief. I wanted to be surprised as a family for a little gender reveal, but it didn’t go that smoothly. It’s a long story, but I signed into my medical homepage so a friend could read the gender message and order us a smash cake, but there in bold it said YOU’RE HAVING A GIRL!! I threw my phone lol- surprise ruined for me.
I still wanted to surprise my husband and this is also how we planned to tell Quinn she was going to be a big sister. On Thanksgiving we presented her with a smash cake and we explained she was going to be a big sis and inside the cake would tell us if it was a baby brother or sister. She was excited, but I don’t think she totally understood what we were telling her. Regardless, she loved the cake! My husband was shocked another girl, but we are so excited Quinn will have a little sister- and I saved all her old clothes!
I just finished up my first trimester that seemed to last FOREVER. I plan to write a first trimester update next week, and thankfully I can say I’m feeling much better this past week. I’m so relieved to be able to talk about it and share more of my journey with you all on Instagram now that the cat is out of the bag!
Some people think we are nuts, but yes we are still getting the puppy! Quinn is SO excited to have a dog and I really miss having a pup around the house. The puppy was born on November 27th, so we get to pick her up on January 27th…then baby girl will be here in June! Needless to say there will be lots of champagne to drink this Spring!
Thank you for all you support and for following along with us!
