Some exciting and surprising news.. we’re moving! But not out of Washington 😉 Phew! We are moving only 30 minutes outside of Seattle to the “east side”…something only my Seattleites will understand. We have been kicking around the idea of moving for about a year but haven’t seen anything come on the market worthy of a move. We have some close friends who live on the east side and they are always trying to convince us to make the move but the thought of pulling the trigger seemed too overwhelming.. until now. Enter quarantine, three little boys clawing at the walls, and one fed up mama who wants land for her animals (ahem, kids) to roam.
So one day a few weeks back, I emailed our realtor with a laundry list of needs/wants in a home if we were to ever make the move thinking she would never be able to deliver. 24 hours later, we walked into our dream home in the city of Redmond and couldn’t say no. And within 48 hours after that, we had an accepted offer and had to come up with a game plan to get our house ready and listed. We had to wrap our heads around the thought of moving away from some of our closest friends, the boys’ schools, our community and everything we’ve known for the past 7+ years in a matter of days. To say it was stressful and emotional is the biggest understatement.. and we are still trying to digest it all.
Fast forward to today, our home in Seattle is currently on the market and we had to skip town in order for our realtor to do his job without 5 people and a dog all up in the space. We retreated to Lake Chelan for the next week in hopes that our house will sell or at least get some potential buyers through the door in that time.
Some of the same questions I keep getting asked are: “What about Alix? What about the Champagne Theory? Will you still do the blog? Are you guys sad you won’t be living next to each other? Are you sad to leave your mom tribe and friends in the neighborhood? What are you going to do out there?” And the answer is simple: Of course I am sad to leave this community and being so close to Alix and a number of dear friends nearby. However, I am moving 30 minutes away.. not back to California like we have discussed in the past. Alix and I see each other almost every day for a walk or blogging or a mom break to drink champs and that will be the hardest part for sure. But the blog will continue and we will still see each other quite a bit. The mall we shop at is halfway between our two houses so the plan will be to meet there for Nordstrom Arnold Palmers, lunch and pictures at least once a week. Maybe meet for a yoga or barre class here and there and definitely weekend brunching!
Leaving Jackson’s school and that community is also a tough pill to swallow as we have had the most amazing experience in his PreK class. But, if we were ever going to make a move, it would have to be now before he’s engrained in school with his buddies. Right now, he is so excited about moving and says he can’t wait to start at a new school and make friends. That makes me feel so much better about our decision.
As for what I am going to do out in the ‘burbs.. this one makes me LOL. I literally got that question.. what are you going to do all day? Um let’s see.. I have three young kids who require all of my attention so I will be raising them the majority of my time 🙂 We are moving to the other side of town, not to Mars, so we still have all of the same grocery stores, workout studios, shopping, dining and coffee shops. When Jackson starts school, I imagine he will request playdates and I’ll meet more mom friends around our neighborhood. Our close friends live 15 minutes away so I know we will be seeing so much more of them than we do now. And lastly, my friends in Seattle will always be my friends. No, I’m not going to see them every day like I do now but there will always be birthdays to celebrate, brunches to be had, and girls weekends to coordinate. I know I will miss out on more impromptu social events but that’s the sacrifice my husband and I are willing to make for our boys.
We feel so excited about this move and can’t wait to get out there this Summer. The boys will have their own basketball court and so much grass in the backyard to run wild and I can’t wait to watch from the window 😉 And while we love the house, there are some cosmetic changes I’ll be making like light fixtures, paint, flooring, etc. so more home decor will be coming to the blog in the coming months. I can’t wait to share more once we get moved in and settled!
Thanks for following along and being there for all of the important events in our lives.. if quarantine did anything, it made me crazy thinking a move with three young kids out of school would be a GREAT IDEA!! Wish me luck.. 😉
xx, H

As someone who grew up in Seattle (Laurelhurst) and then moved to the eastside when my now husband and I moved in together. It was the best decision ever. I could never move back to the other side of the bridge. We have lived in Kirkland, Redmond and now currently living in Issaquah. All my workout classes (Pure Barre, TruFusion, and Core Power) are all in Bellevue and lets be honest….Bell Square has everything. You will love the eastside! Enjoy 🙂

Thank you Lauren!! I have been hearing so many people saying the same thing. We currently live in NE Seattle near Laurelhurst and while I love the community, we just don’t have the space for our three boys. Moving to Redmond where we’ll have acreage and a cul de sac for them to play without me worrying all the time 🙂 Excited about it and YES Bellevue Square is LIFE!

I agree with Lauren. I live in Bellevue (factoria) and loooove the area. It’s right, Bellevue square is the BEST and you can find whatever you want here. I lived in downtowns my whole life: Montreal, Vancouver and Seattle. I consider myself a downtown person. But Bellevue, Redmond and Kirkland are really nice and changed how i see things. Schools are nice too and there are so many options in the area. I’m glad we’re renting since we moved to Bellevue a 18months ago. It helped us know what we want and now i know where i’ll be buying a house (if we don’t move -again- to another country) 😍😍😍😍😍 I am so happy for you. I’ve been following you since before the blog a and I hope you’re life only gets better and happier 😍
