I hope you all had a wonderful holiday weekend and took some much needed time off.. from work, social media, and all things that can sometime bring us down. I saw a quote the other day about being “busy” but in a totally different way. I am busy not checking emails or social media. Busy reading books I never started or finished this year. I am busy being grateful for having loved ones who are healthy. Busy drinking wine with my husband and watching Netflix. I am busy not being productive and busy slowing down. And this past weekend was all those things.
A few days before Christmas, Seattle saw SNOW and it stuck around for a few days. It was magical so we took a trip to the ski hill to play for a couple hours. Parker is back in school today and we are taking Cam and Jack to the mountain to get them up on skis. This will be Jackson’s second time and Cam’s first and since there are no lessons right now on the hills, Britt and I are teaching them.. it’s a bit of a S show but I know the more and more we do it, the bette they’ll get. I anticipate ski trips with my boys over the years and I can’t wait to show them some beautiful places one day! But step 1: learn pizza vs French fries on skis HA!
Christmas in our house was just like any other year.. the kids were up at the ass crack because why would they sleep past 6:30 am when Santa came? To be fair, 6:30 was an improvement.. I think last year it was 5 woof. Bring on the coffee. A delicious almond croissant. And when can we start drinking mimosas?! The presents were opened by 8 am and we had the rest of the day to play with the new toys and build LEGOs. The biggest hits of the day were the four-wheeler and the dirt bike from Santa but I have to give a major shout out to our family who made this year so special even though we couldn’t be together. Aunts, uncles, grandparents, and great-parents spoiled these kids BEYOND comprehension and Britt and I feel so lucky.
Britt and I exchanged little gifts but the best gift of all was this foot massager (Alix got it too!). Everyone is trying to find ways to bring the spa to their home and this is a great addition to my at home spa 😉
Alix and her family ended up coming over mid-afternoon on Christmas since we can’t be with our actual families this year and it was just what we all needed. The kids always love to see each other and so they got to play with their new toys together while the adults sipped champagne (Alix had sparking water poor thing) and hung out outside visiting, listening to Christmas music with a football game on in the background. We have essentially quarantined with each other over the past 9 months and I am so glad we could hang out and enjoy the holiday weekend together.
As we go into the final week of the year, I am hopeful that 2021 will bring a bit more normalcy; although, I anticipate that more toward the middle to end of the year. So I am trying to go into the New Year with a humble attitude and grateful heart that my family is healthy and safe at home. And I honestly think we will miss these days. As mundane and difficult as some of the days have been, I have a feeling we will look back and wish we could spend this time together again. I am fortunate that my husband is home with us and when he has to travel again for work I think it’s going to be a rough transition. What?! You’re LEAVING? For WORK?! How dare you 😉 And when all three of my boys are back in school and I don’t have anyone home with me, it is going to feel too quiet. And I can guarantee I am not going to like it so for now, I am going to cherish this time with all of them at home in our bubble.
As we close out 2020, I feel grounded and confident.. in myself, in my friendships, as a mother and a wife. And don’t get me wrong, I don’t always feel this way.. especially in the mom department.. but overall, I can’t complain about a whole lot. So much to be thankful for and look forward to in the New Year. Hopefully more brunches with my girlfriends and maybe a trip to Hawaii when it’s safe to do so.
Cheers to 2021 and leaving 2020 in the damn dust.
xx, H
