I need a new pair of jeans for fall. I want a darker wash without any distress (too cold to have my knees exposed!). Ideally a skinny ankle cut that will work with both flats and booties. Help!
If it were me, I’d go with something from Madewell or Levi’s but those are just the jeans that fit me the best and don’t break the bank. However, I’ve linked a bunch of options below that would be perfect based on what you described above:
I’m headed to Hawaii this winter and need a few new swim suits. I will be chasing after a toddler so nothing too skimpy 😉
Don’t you hate that every swimsuit these days is literally dental floss?! Like.. can I get some coverage?! Try looking at the following stores: ASOS (cheap cheap cheap and so cute!), Nordstrom (usually more coverage), Revolve (trendy but less coverage.. I linked some L*Space because they’re a good suit) and Urban Outfitters (never bought swim suits from here but their selection is on point). Here is just some inspo and suits I would buy if I was going to Hawaii, you lucky B:

If you were to recommend a juicer machine, which would you pick? And what would be your dream juicer?
I have a juicer similar to this one that we got for a wedding gift. When we first got it I used it almost every weekend to make fresh juices for the week, but that didn’t last long. I like super green juices, so I had to buy A TON of greens to yield enough juice..there is a reason juice places use so much apple and celery and cucumber (lots of water content). The clean up and washing of the whole machine is a pain in the butt. I wish I used it more and always think about it, but end up just driving to Pressed 😉 My juicer is great and does the trick, but if you’re asking me about my dream juicer I would say a cold press juicer is ideal to get the most nutrients in your juice, but they are $$. This one looks amazing, or this Omega juice you can also make wheatgrass shots, nut butters, baby food, and more!
Alix- I see you using ghee when you’re cooking and I’m intimated by this product.. is it a substitute for butter? Can you give me some examples how you use it in your everyday recipes?
Don’t be scared 😉 Okay so first what is ghee…ghee is a type of clarified butter and is made by first melting regular butter then when the butter separates into liquid fats and milk solids the milk solids are removed. This means that ghee has less lactose and casein than butter making it a good option for people that are sensitive. Ghee is rich in a fatty acid called conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) which have various health benefits.
Yes, you can use ghee as a butter substitute in most recipes including baking… it’s really versatile. Ghee has a higher smoke point so can be a great option for sautéing and pan frying. I like to fry my eggs in ghee. Many butter coffee recipes use ghee. My favorite ghee is 4th & Heart. Hope this helps!
It may seem early but I’m starting to shop for holiday party dresses and need some inspiration. Where do you typically shop for holiday looks and have you seen anything purchase-worthy yet?
It’s never too early! Stores are starting to put out their holiday-wear and I guarantee the good stuff will sell out. I was in Zara earlier this week and the sequin game is strong, let me tell ya! My go-to stores for holiday dresses and outfits are Zara, Anthropologie, Nordstrom (shocker), Revolve and ASOS. These are my go-to stores in general but they tend to get good items for the holidays as well. Here’s some outfit inspo for you:
Heather – can you share where you got everything for Parker’s nursery? Love all the neutral tones!
Thanks you! I’m really happy with the way it turned out 🙂 His crib is by Babyletto and can be found at Target, Crate and Barrel, Land of Nod, Joss and Main and Pottery Barn Kids. I got the dresser from Target but it can also be found at these other retailers (I got the black and neutral finish). The crib skirt is Land of Nod but is identical to this one from Target and this is his exact crib sheet. I got his round gold mirror above the changing table from Hobby Lobby and everything else is from Home Goods. Easy to find a shaggy white rug anywhere, though.. try Amazon, Overstock, Pier 1, etc.
Depending on what I read, I don’t know if I’m getting enough protein. How much protein do I need?
Yes, it can get really confusing! First thing to note about protein is that we don’t store a lot of it…our bodies absorb what is needed at the time then excretes the rest. This means we need to have adequate protein with all our meals and snacks, but no need to go overboard with (for example) a 10oz steak at one meal because your body really utilizes around 15-25 grams at a time. Ideally aim for 15-25% of your overall caloric intake to come from protein depending on age, sex, and activity levels.
Most people typically get enough protein in your day (vegetarians included) if you eat a balanced and variety diet. The quality of the protein source matters a lot too. Try and make this a mix of animal and plant proteins.
Natural deodorant seems to be trendy, but do they actually work? Do have a rec for one you use and like?
Alix here…I’ve dabbled with my fair share of natural deodorants and have only found one that keeps me stink free so far. Schmidt’s Rose and Vanilla Deodorant is my fave and can handle my workouts pretty well. Not going to lie I still have my trusty Dove spray that I use when I know I’m going to get really sweating or want to make sure I stay stink free.
I also have the Kopari that smells SO amazing, BUT I can’t break a sweat in this or I smell. I’ll wear it if I’m just bumming around the house, but probably won’t buy again. I’ve tried every natural deodorant Whole Foods sells and have had the same experience with those ones as well and usually end up tossing them (EO, Toms,Crystal, etc). I’ve heard really good things about Native and want to try that next. Any recs from you guys?!
