Can you link your favorite meal prep storage containers? I need a refresh.
Here are some favorites. The container I use to store my berries (3 baskets) is sold out so I link some similar options.
Is oat milk in my coffee/matcha spiking my blood sugar? What are the benefits of oat vs whole milk in my morning beverages?
I mean any food/drink that contains carbohydrates is going to raise blood sugar- it’s your body’s natural response…the pancreas produces insulin in response to bring it down. Not a big deal until these spikes are happening all day long (the blood sugar rollercoaster not ideal for many reasons) and/or staying chronically high. Anyways, what slows the rise in blood sugar is pairing the carb with fiber and/or protein…less drastic spikes and dips. Sipping on an oatmilk matcha once in a while is fine, but maybe as a daily beverage (esp. without a source of protein/fiber) might not be be best choice long term. While it tastes yummy, oatmilk is higher in carbs (which is why I will use for a pre-workout coffee drink) and most coffee shops have the barista blend that contains added sugar- it’s sweeeeet! I prefer using regular milk (whatever fat content you prefer) because you aren’t getting the added sugars and it contains some protein.
Can you tell us more about the dietetic conference you attended and what you learned? What do the girlies need to know?
Oh it was sadly pretty dry. I got some continuing education at least! A fun surprise was hearing Danielle Kartes of Rustic Joyful Food speak. She has written a bunch of cookbooks, has been on the Kelly Clarkson show and others, and currently competing on Next Level Chef. She was really entertaining and has a great story.
There were some other speakers who presented interesting research on lifestyle medicine in relationship to hypertension and heart attacks. Nutrition is the the most intervention in prevention, but the hardest for people do- making dietitians on the front lines for helping the public implement dietary changes that could save lives. Poor diet and inactivity is the #1 behavioral cause of death. Sad statistic but validates the importance of my profession.
Lastly, I learned I need to work on accepting insurance for my private practice and it’s not that hard to do once it’s set up- so that’s on my to do list now!
If I wanted to schedule a consultation with Alix to chat wellness and how to feel my best, how would I go about that? What’s the cost for an initial consult?
Oh that’s so nice! Here is my website (it’s still a work in progress with getting my professional pictures uploaded, etc). The initial intake is 75 minutes and costs $200 (which includes time spent review labs, forms, etc.) and follow-up visits are 45 minutes and cost $125. These can all be done in office or virtually (if in WA). I am hoping to be able to accept insurance soon and be able to see clients out of state virtually. You can also schedule a complimentary 15 minute discovery call to chat and see if it would be a good fit!
Need some new, cute bathing suit cover ups for the summer. Can you link some you like?
What is your favorite tinted moisturizer (with SPF) for a no makeup/makeup look?
I have been loving Molly Sim’s line so much and this is her version of tinted moisturizer and I’m obsessed. It’s perfect for everyday wear and love that it has SPF.
Love the mule sneakers you both have. Can you link them on the blog? Thanks!
We get so many compliments on these!
I want a big carryall bag for the summer.. maybe something monogrammed but doesn’t have to be. What are we carrying?
Alix just ordered this one, which is so cute for the pool/beach or even a carry on. I also always love an LL Bean moment and have multiple sizes with my monogram.
xx, H&A
