Happy Friday loves! Instead of our regularly scheduled Happy Hour, we thought we would dedicate this post to our top 5 Summer Intentions in hopes that if we write them down, it will keep us more accountable 😉 What are your summer plans? How do you intend to make it one of your best yet?! We’d love to hear!

- SPF. every day. I’ve been good about using this Drunk Elephant tinted sunscreen daily on my face, but I really want to focus on my hands and lips. We often forget about these places and I for one do not want wrinkly hands! I bought this SPF hand cream and leave it right by my front door as a reminder before I walk outside. I keep this lip balm in my purse at all times.
- Read at night. This was a New Years resolution that kind of dropped off. I got really into Hart of Dixie and Riverdale on Netflix and have gotten into the habit of watching shows on my computer before bed. I sleep way better when I read instead of watch TV before bed. So I took the initiative and started a little book club with some girlfriends to motivate to read more. I’m still trying to finish The Nightingale, but our first book for July is Into the Water.
- Date nights. Summer nights are the best in Seattle. It’s light out until almost 10pm and I want to take advantage of it more. It takes some planning ahead and getting sitters lined up, but so worth having some quality relationship time. This weekend we have a sitter for a few hours during the day and plan to go paddle boarding and get lunch!
- Sleep. This kind of ties into #2, but I’m not getting 7-8 solid hours of sleep a night. Sleep is SO important for many different reasons, so I’m determined to get back in a good night routine. I’m staying up too late on my phone or computer because it isn’t dark in our room until 9:30-10ish and then the morning light comes in around 4:45am. We don’t have black out shades in our room, so I just ordered this sleep mask and plan to go to bed earlier and not be woken up so early.
- Explore. I still feel like we are pretty new to Seattle- we moved here about a year and a half ago. This is our second summer here and I want to explore more of this beautiful state. There are so many fun things to do close by…hiking, paddle boarding, camping (that’s a lie I hate camping), restaurants, parks, farmers market, etc. I hope we can be more adventurous as a family on the weekends.

- Enjoy instead of dread summer vacation. Jackson has been in a school type setting ever since he was 15 months old because I was a full-time working mom. Even when I stopped working, he has gone to “school” for a few hours a day because he truly loves it and learns SO much. Now, it’s summer “break” and it’s the first time I’ll truly be home with both boys all day every day. I hear other moms talk about dreading this time when their kids are out of school and I get it.. IT’S HARD WORK. I’m tired thinking about it but I am determined to make it enjoyable for all of us. I will have a positive attitude! Seattle is finally seeing some gorgeous weather so my goal is to get out of the house, explore our beautiful city and keep these kids (and myself) happy and tired out. Park, pool, zoo, repeat.
- Get my boaters license. We own a boat with our friends and while it’s AWESOME, we can only go out when the guys are off work and able to drive it, which means we are missing some prime tanning hours in the middle of the day! How great would it be if I could take it out with girlfriends and drive to restaurants on the lake? I have all of the information to do it and I don’t think it will take more than a few hours to complete, so by writing this intention down I think I will finally do it. Hopefully.
- Try a new recipe every week. I’ve kind of fallen off the wagon when it comes to meal prep and balanced eating. This pregnancy has knocked me down a bit and I find myself throwing together our meals or just ordering take out. My goal is to grocery shop on Sundays, meal plan and cook at least 3 nights a week with one new recipe a week. Alix is always so prepared and on top of her meal planning and pins her recipes to our Pinterest page. I made this Sesame Chicken Noodle salad last night and it’s bomb. So I’m taking a page out of her book and getting back on track with new, easy recipes.
- Learn to golf. So this isn’t going to happen overnight and will take much longer than a summer to accomplish (especially as this belly grows) but my husband is an avid golfer and we are members of a golf club so I have no excuse not to learn. And with three boys, we’re hopeful that at least one of them will become a professional golfer 😉 I don’t just want to drive the cart.. I want to participate. And it’s a sport you can play your entire life! I plan to dedicate time and energy to the sport over the coming months and play a few rounds here and there when the opportunity presents itself.
- Declutter. In every sense. I intend to clean out my closet, my house, my mind (with yoga once a week) and our lifestyle and just go minimal. We don’t need all. the. things. Summer should be about spending quality time with the family and making fun memories… we’re going on a couple of low key vacations and unwinding. Unplugging from my phone also goes in this category. I’m pretty good about shutting it all off by 8 pm but that’s because I’m legit in bed by that time 😉 I should be shutting down around 6, being present with my family and enjoying the late summer sunshine instead of scrolling through Insta.
Thanks for stopping by and showing us some love! Email us your questions to champagnetheory@gmail.com with subject Happy Hour. xx

Alix – For #4, not sure if you have done these things yet but just a couple of suggestions for exploring Seattle. You have probably heard them but figured I would share anyways! :
-The Electric Boat Company! You can rent a boat to go around Lake Union. Its family friendly, and you can bring snacks and drinks on the boat. Its pretty easy to drive the boat and just a fun way to get out on the water if your boat friends arent around 🙂
-Stand Up Paddle Boarding at Golden Gardens. We used a blow up stand up paddle board we got on Amazon but I think you can rent at Surf Ballard. We went on one day that the water was a little shaky but it was still awesome. The summer views there are unreal.
Enjoy this Seattle weather for me! It truly is one of a kind.
